I have bought a twin fan cooler usb for my octagon and now the temperature doesnt rise above 55ºC it works perfectly but my doubt is could we control via software the power on off the usb plug-in.

Now i have to stop directly in the fans with a swtich that has the fan incorporated but would be good could power off the usb output of voltage.

Thanks

you have to test it by yourself

Try this, USB should be switched off after 500 ms

Code: [Select]
root@h7:~# echo auto >/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2/power/control
root@h7:~# echo auto >/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/control
root@h7:~# echo 500 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/autosuspend_delay_ms
root@h7:~# echo 500 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2/power/autosuspend_delay_ms

and wake up

Code: [Select]
root@h7:~# echo on >/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2/power/control
root@h7:~# echo on >/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/control

Just to be curious:

What do you do with your box so that it needs active cooling? And where you do get that temperature reading from?

If that is on-die temperature (what most boxes report), 55ºC is relatively cool, my Raspberry PI idles at 35ºC, but goes to 100ºC under load, which is not a problem for the die, and doesn't change the ambient temperature inside the housing very much (as long as it has a cooling block and airflow),

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Well the problem is maybe that usually passive cooling solutions in current STBs produce heat.

For example Vu+Duo4kSE without active cooling works normally about 60-75 degree. Some people doesnt like that and prefer to cool it additionally. Maybe thats the current case...

Besides some HiSi boxes got fried out due to abnormal heating....So maybe @antrabe want to assure there will be no overheating.

Ok. So it is an "between-the-ears" problem, and not a technical problem, some people try to solve.

Abnormal heating can only happen when the airflow is restricted, which is a user-error, not a hardware issue. If that can't be avoided for some reason, I can understand active cooling, but not with a cool 55 degrees operating temperature.
