Hello,
I have an asus ax55 nano wlan usb and I can't get it to work on my mutant hd51 under openpli 9.0.
I installed the kernel for rtl8852au and rtl8852bu but without success.
Do you have a solution please?
Sincerely

Let start at the beginning: what is the USB ID of that device?

From what I can see, it should be supported by several drivers, none of which we build, so I don't understand how you were able to install it.
I also read that the source isn't available from Asus, and that from realtek is flaky, buggy, and doesn't support all standards...

Good evening,
thank you for your quick reply.
here is the key identifier.
I installed the drivers from the package manager of the image itself.

Connect to your box with telnet/ssh then type:

lsusb

Then connect the device and issue again:

lsusb

The new entry between the first and the second lsusb will be the WiFi Module information.

Impatient?

Adding out-of-tree kernel drivers is quite a bit of work, I've spend the entire afternoon working on it for you.

rtl8852au should be available in develop, after the next build (the one that starts after the current run is finished) has completed. If it works, I can look at backporting it to 9.0-release.

I hope you can test it with a develop image, as I'm not going to backport is if I don't know it works.

Thanks in advance

See our homepage, in the sidebar on the right.

Current develop build is predicted to end on 21-06-2024 22:54 UTC, it will be in the build that starts sometime after this, so I suggest you check every now and then tomorrow.

Hello,
I've just tested the 8852au module and unfortunately it doesn't work.
Is there any chance that it's the wrong module? I've seen people talking about the 8832 on the internet.
Best regards

Same code.

Can you elaborate on "don't work"? What happens if you boot the box and then plug it in? what is reported exactly in the dmesg output?

It loads rtl88x2bu, so you need to remove that:

opkg remove kernel-module-rtl88x2bu

and reboot.

Besides that, this isn't ok either:

[ 17.687511] EXT4-fs error (device mmcblk0p3): ext4_mb_generate_buddy:755: group 80, block bitmap and bg descriptor inconsistent: 8192 vs 4096 free clusters

thank you for your answers.
I removed the module as requested (now my other TPLink stick no longer works lol).
I don't know how to fix the mmcblk0p3 error.
That said, the asus wlan stick still doesn't work :(

just to clarify: the fact that it loads the rtl88x2bu module is normal as i have a second wlan device that works with this module.
I unplugged the second device for the test above.

you can only fix the mmc errors by reflashing, it is only a matter of time before it fails:

[ 332.759201] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p3): error count since last fsck: 8478
[ 332.765404] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p3): initial error at time 177: ext4_mb_generate_buddy:758
[ 332.773345] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p3): last error at time 16: ext4_mb_generate_buddy:755

As to the usb device, something seems to crash when loading:

Do you think this memory allocation problem affects this driver only or all wifi6 drivers?
