I attempted to check for any new software updates on my VU Ultimo 4K running the nightly development build. Last time updated, I think, was yesterday.

It just continually searches for any updates. I don't know if it will give up at some point but I have left it searching and will check later.

It took around 40 minutes to find 25 updates.

I selected update, and it is now stuck on unattended update in progress.

Hopefully, it will eventually get through this and update.

OK, sorted.

It didn't resolve the problem itself. I removed the power, then rebooted and also rebooted my router.

Then went through the software update process again and it worked flawlessly.

Today, I am unable to update the software.

The usual power down of the box and a restart is not helping.

I thought perhaps the Ultimo was struggling with the heat, but I even tried after removing the power for about 15 minutes and the temp in the box was 35c.

It just hangs on 'unattended update in progress'.

Only removing power will bring the receiver back to life and make it useable again, but it will not update any software.

I checked network, that is fine. All green on the network test.

Anyone got any suggestions?

You have to blame your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or you local network.

I just update one of my box right now without any latency issue.

What happens if you perform an online update and ask for restarting the STB?

It just hangs on 'unattended update in progress'.

How much patience did you have? If you've installed picons, on an old Ultimo an update can easily take 10-15 minutes.

I always do an online update and ask for a restart.

Currently, it takes about 40 minutes to find the updates, then hangs when I initiate the update.

Never use picons.

The software update never happens.

This is a recent issue. Yesterday and the day before, it would work if I powered down and also rebooted the router before doing a software update.

There is a noticeable pause when I start a check for any updates, before it appears to start.

I see the requests from your IP in the logs, very slow (like 10+ minutes apart for each package). But the servers repond directly, to the problem is either on the box, or between the box and our download mirrors...

And I see downloads for an Ultimo 4K, not an Ultimo?

Yes, it is an Ultimo 4K as stated in the first post.

The last time, I had a similar but not exactly same issue, it would take a long time to find software updates. It would, though, install them. Unlike with this issue.

If you are able to use the command line, you can update on the commandline too:

opkg update
opkg upgrade

so you can see exactly what the responses are, if any.

The Ultimo 4K did manage to successfully update early evening, I think it was.

I will search for possible updates this morning, when I can access the receiver and see if the issue is still there.

I was unable to access the receiver yesterday due to family being with me.

I have just initiated a software upgrade and after about 28 / 29 minutes, 3 updates were found. I selected update at about 10:19 UK time, and it is still currently frozen on the unattended upgrade screen.

I will leave it longer to see if it manages to get through this.

If it doesn't, I am tempted to reflash with the latest nightly development version to see if that cures the problem.

As you can see there are several minutes between requests of every packages.gz index file, which indicates either a very slow network connection between your box and our download mirrors (which are hosted by OVH in France), or in the processing of the index files on the box.

Funny enough, you seem to have an internet connection from Entanet (Aquiss, Cityfiber, etc), same as I have ;).

Looking closer:

[14/Aug/2024:09:05:35 +0000] "GET /feeds/openpli-develop/armv7ahf-neon/Packages.gz HTTP/1.1" 200 466604 "-" "Wget/1.21.1" "-" upstream_status=304 request_time=0.362 upstream_response_time=0.050 upstream_connect_time=0.023 upstream_header_time=0.050

Sorry, but the above is meaningless to me.

I left the receiver updating beginning at 10:19 UK time, and it took around 40 minutes to get through it and rebooting.

Yes, I am with Aquiess for my Internet. 1GB service and speed stats are fine.

Everything else on the network seems to work fine.

If I remember tomorrow, I will turn on my VPN before looking to see if there are any updates to see if it makes a difference.
