Hi,

OpenPLI 9.0 + Vu+ Duo 4K (non-SE). DVB-C FBC tuner + cable TV.

I have been dealing with this issue for some time. No disruptions to video but short dropouts in audio.

This is random - may not happen for whole day, on the next day it may happen every few minutes for an hour or two and then disappear. Very annoying when it happens.

TV is connected to Vu+ via AV receiver. I was suspecting AV receiver but I replaced it recently to a newer model and problem is still the same.

When it happens and AVR's status popup OSD window is displayed on TV, it says there is no audio stream from source (Vu+).

The issue dose not appear when CAM module is inserted directly into TV (and TV acts as a STB) so it is something wrong with Vu+ then, not with the TV signal from cable operator.

I started investigating it deeper and noticed the following dmesg messages when these audio dropouts happen:

[   40.241096] FE tune
[   40.335194] FE tune
[   42.555361] [SC]: !!!unknown cmd 0x540b

or

[  741.574696] [DFP]: unknown cmd 0x5401
[  741.578436] [DFP]: unknown cmd 0x5401

What do they mean ?

0x540b follow FE tune messages and appear during/after switching between channels so probably not at fault.
As per my observations, these audio dropouts have high correlation to 0x5401 messages though.

Thanks,
Zbyszek

FE tune are messages from the frontend then they get a tuning command, you can ignore those.

As to the DFP messages, I see them too every now and then, when I watch channels encrypted by a CI module, but I've never experienced any audio dropouts.

I've never seen the SC message, but I assume it is smartcard related. Is your module a CI+ module by any chance?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Hi,

Sorry about forgetting to mention about it.

This is "generic" CI smartcard/accesscard, not CI+ and not paired with my Conax CI/CAM module.

But in Vu+ I'm using smart card alone, without CI module, inserted directly into smartcard reader of Vu+ + OSCAM.

This gives me stellar capabilities with FBC tuner - recording multiple channels in parallel (while watching something else), streaming TV channels to my tablet etc.

(I'm lucky because I'm an old customer and later on my cable operator switched to CI+ modules and access smart cards paired with CAM modules but luckily they are not forcibly replacing legacy CI CAM modules with CI+ ones).

To use it in TV obviously I would have to insert smartcard into CI/CAM module first.

I am aboslutely not convinced that these short (like a second-long) droputs are caused by these messages but I noticed some correlatiion between these messages and these droputs so they brought my attention.

In such case, can this be that these "unknown cmd" come from OSCAM ? (since I'm not using CI module at all)

What is "DFP" ?

No, dmesg messages are from drivers, they don't even know Oscam exists...

I meant - OSCAM is doing something to the smartcard which triggers these messages.

That leads to the question - what is "DFP" driver/module that reports these unknown commands.

No, impossible, there is no interaction between oscam and the drivers (other than accessing the card reader).

I also see the 0x5401 errors occastionally on my box too (a Solo 4K), and I don't have any smartcard in any box locally. I never have any audio dropouts as well, but I don't use a digital AV amp, mine is connected via Toslink (optical).

No idea what DFP stands for, we don't have access to the source of the drivers.

I did some digging, DFP is related to the digital video out (it is part of the EDID spec), so not related to tuner, cardreader or softcam.

That's an idea, I'll try to pass audio from Vu+ to AVR via optical Toslink connection and see if it changes anything.

I had to reorganize things a bit because (the only one) SPDIF input in my AVR was already occupied by optical connection to TV set (I use TV as a player for some streaming services) so I had to switch to eARC between TV and AVR first.

Then I connected Vu+ SPDIF output to AVR's SPDIF input (video over HDMI, audio via optical SPDIF) and the issue went away - theese messages are still there but no audio dropouts.

If HDMI connection (port in Vu+ or cable) was at fault then I would also have some distoritions/interruptions in video, not just audio. So not sure what to think about it.

Could also be a software bug in the AVR, I've seen plenty of those over the years. It's one of the reasons I never replaced my old analog (almost, it does have coax and toslink inputs) AVR by a fully digital one.

Hi.

Since when has this been happening to you? I have a similar problem, but I don't want to mix it up here. And in addition, it is a different Enigma2 distribution in my case and not OpenPLi. The problem is happening on my Vu+Solo SE V2.

1. It happened to me a long time ago. Sometimes the sound went out after a few weeks or months. And then the sound stopped working. The video worked fine but the sound was dead. Neither switching channels nor switching to standby helped. I had to turn off the power to the set-top box and then turn it on again. And this helped.

2. I updated my Enigma2 only in 2 days ago. What started to happen was that the sound cut out more and more often... at random intervals. In the course of 2 days, audio in set-top box was turned off about 2x-3x (for few seconds long period only). However, it always helped to switch the Vu+Solo-SE-V2 to standby mode and then immediately wake it up again. But when I repeated this 4 times, the audio finally lasted for only 5 seconds after waking up from standby.

In point 2, as if the problem was caused by some static charge in some capacitor or overheating of some component :-D. What finally helped was turning it off (Power Button on the back panel and pulling out the power adapter from the network) + turning on the set-top box. The sound then stopped dropping out.

Point 2 has happened to me only 2 times in 3 days so far, so I can't say whether this will continue to happen. It's holding up well so far. I've been testing it for 2 hours now.

Just a technical note... have any drivers changed for Vu+ devices ? If so, that could be the problem. Or has nothing changed regarding the hardware drivers ? :-/

But I don't want to grind to nothing :-).

Firstly, I'm currently using a different Enigma2 than OpenPLi, and secondly, I own a Vu+Solo SE V2 and also a Vu+ Zero4K, with the Vu+Zero4K running perfectly fine after the updates.

This seems specific to the Duo 4K I have the same in the dmesg output:

[   23.493384] [VID]: VIDEO_SET_STREAMTYPE 1

[   23.497541] [VID]: VIDEO_SELECT_SOURCE 1  0

[   46.697954] [AUD]: AUDIO_SET_BYPASS_MODE 0
[   46.702150] [AUD]: AC3 downmix 0  state : 0

My VU+ Duo 4K is not connected to any amplifier, isn't it coming from the Bluetooth driver?

I don't have this message on my VU+ Solo 4K

This exist since a very long time:

https://forums.openp...npli-py3/page-2

If you google the error: "unknown cmd 0x5401"  you will see that it exists in many image for a very long time.

It's coming from the VU+ driver nothing we can do about this.

[DFP]

The downstream-facing port (DFP) sends data downstream.

There are two kinds of USB ports - upstream and downstream.

An upstream USB port receives power (and data) and a downstream USB port provides power (and data) to devices connected to it.
