MetropolisHD by Franc skin ver 1.0.

Fully tested on STi 7111/7162 OpenAR-P/PBNIGMA - both OE 2.0, python 2.7.
It ought to work on all SH4 Enigmas and some mips Enigmas (Gigablue - TeamRED, DM 800HD SE etc. - Open-Pli 3+).

Download: https://skydrive.liv...AAxNh7SGBdoqdVA

Installation via telnet:
opkg install /tmp/*.ipk --force-overwrite

Manual installation:
Usual procedure, the IPK version is above but here is the info anyway:
1. In /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Components/Converter/ and /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Components/Renderer/ - I recommend you overwrite the existing files
2. In /usr/share/fonts (in some Enigmas /usr/local/share/fonts/) copy all fonts - overwrite, as above.
3. File MetropolisHD copy to folder /usr/share/enigma2 (in some Enigmas folder /usr/local/share/enigma2)

In case of trouble, return to the default skin by going into E2 via FTP and in folder /etc/enigma2/ find the file settings, where one changes the default skin in the following line: config.skin.primary_skin=MetropolisHD/skin.xml. Instead of "MetropolisHD" put the name of the default skin. Or simply delete the whole MetropolisHD folder.

SNRdB vs. SNR:
By default in infobar one gets the signal strength in dB, while the secondinfobar it's in %, if E2 supports it. If one gets "N/A" in infobar (or similar nonsense) one should alter the values in the main Menu: - Menu --> Setup --> System --> User Interface --> Show SNR percentage instead of dB value = Yes

Picons: With MetropolisHD I recommend 'black picons', never transparent or oled.

Enjoy!

A note: Some plugins/extensions can slow down Enigma2, as well as a skin...

I added the terms (in good faith, no patronising overtones, whatsoever!) as used in those debates for quite a while, especially in AZbug HD debate, when they promised "twin tuner", only to deliver "combo" capacity, in the manner I described, carefully wording it, only for you to try to belittle it (not a good level at which to debate things, for sure...)... Talk about patronising in tone and attitude... (On the other hand, we must not speak badly of you and your efforts... Ahem... :D ) The reason was - that the HW of the first two models was just not capable enough, hence the Premium+ model later on (with a stronger "South Bridge", if memory serves). So, I don't talk completely from the top of my head, as you seem to be (patronisingly) implying... :D

And if nobody cares - why all this posturing? :D (Gotcha! :D )

But I care. And a few others, obviously, so... :)

Banging on = bashing? Well, as I said earlier, stick with I.T. :D

And you haven't explained anything at all, when it comes PB Expander. Things were explained to you by the coder himself (and I gave you the info, too) and you kept incorrectly banging on (here I go again :D ) as if you knew what you were talking about, whereas some of us who know a little bit about it saw you had no clue - but it didn't stop you from passing your judgement from on high... Pathetic, really but also quite silly (as in funny to watch... :D )... :D

So, you are quite right: I am NOT interested in such "explanations" from your good self, thanx a bunch, since you are not interested in hearing anything from anybody! We have seen ample evidence of that attitude of yours from many a post on this forum alone, when you were "debating" things with the coders and they couldn't tell you anything but you were constantly telling them what's what in a "definitive" kind of way, even though we could see from the debate that opinions were divided or even quite diametrically opposite, on various issues... As others have told me: "Who the Hell does this guy think he is?!?" Seriously arrogant and aloof... If only you were that kind of "authority"...

Stay well and keep entertaining us, please... :D

#344831 merge requests for PLi's git

I don't know. really... I am an IT lay person. What I can do is install, configure well, write a good, thorough tutorial for a newbie and write a feedback to an author of a piece of SW etc. I can also help newbies and help organise etc. That's all.

But I'll tell you what I and many other could do without: I really do not need sarcasm and similar stuff, as I have no need for these petty mind-/power-games, since I think that "whose is bigger" is utterly unbecoming to a mature person! At least to my mind...

So, I would warmly recommend getting the chip on one's shoulder surgically removed and simply standing tall WITHOUT AGGRESSIVE, SUPERIORITY COMPLEX-DRIVEN POSTURING, sharing the info with all, just as others share freely with you and - peace!

Tribal/clan-like stuff is really immature and sad, in my mind... Either one has a rational argument and can deal with other's rational arguments or if one simply plays power games (read "ignores" others) - s/he can go take a walk on the wild side, as far as I am concerned.

Really, talk straight, help if you can - in the spirit of the hobby (the best ethos of these forums I can think of) - and if you do not want to do that, then go to kindergarden and measure yours against theirs and feel superiour...

Actually, many are jumping on the bandwagon of streaming to other devices in one's home network or via internet, some on an industrial scale, plus a variety of ways to control our boxes...

#280127 Bad Picture Quality of Enigma2 vs Katherin/Humax/Techisat/Azbox/etc...

Posted by gorski on 30 May 2012 - 00:33

Erik, I will take it as a sign of weakness, not potency and self-belief, from you, sorry...

I have tested for many a great writer in our hobby and this I have never seen...

My questions, suggestions and critical approaches were done in good faith!

{This must be the sorriest exit from a respectful debate ever...}

#280064 Bad Picture Quality of Enigma2 vs Katherin/Humax/Techisat/Azbox/etc...

Posted by gorski on 29 May 2012 - 19:12

Hmmm, nope, I don't buy it.

Here is the challenge: either you really show us the scientific side, which is universal, obliging etc. OR you are, after all is said and done, relying on your eyes, just covering it in a thin layer of what you "know" is going on underneath.,,..

Therein lies the problem: if you put the "measurements" out in the open there may be a fallout to suffer... We may see that there are not many ways you can do this, you see... There isn't much there, is it? So, we are still not seeing anything that is truly measurable, universal and not prone to "magic", where hand is faster than the eye and it's all but an illusion...

As things stand, and here I stand by my charge that you're jumping into your own stomach, [and the more this is going on without anything really measurable, the more this is apparent to us all] you are ultimately relying on your eyes, to "prove" what you "know" from the technical side...

But you know, humans only have human eyes...

P.S. I read carefully but your explanations, to me, do not seem all that straight-forward and I am not alone in that feeling of "not exactly being convinced", including some from OpenPLi Team... In fact, they also [politely, like most of us] told you things are not black and white...

#280006 Bad Picture Quality of Enigma2 vs Katherin/Humax/Techisat/Azbox/etc...

Erik, sorry, I can't help it: are you using your eyes now as a sole judge?!? :D

All of the time I am trying to explain that perception is not a good base to start quality comparison from. So, no that's not with "my eyes". If you make this remark, you obviously have never seen discrete scaling, because you would agree. This has nothing to do with better or worse quality, the result is hardly recognisable. Be glad nobody has been using it for a long time. I've only seen it on ancient laptops.

In other words, now you are using only your eyes and mentioning "whoever sees it must agree with me" 'argument'... Which is something some other people have mentioned regarding this very topic but then you dismissed it out of hand...

In fact, you're jumping into your own stomach and quite hard, with this argument...

technically there is no reason to use black borders in broadcast material.

My remark has nothing to do with that.

Care to expand, please?
