Sorry my bad I forgot ipk's were replaced by .deb on dm9x0
So I've converted your .ipk to .deb

Unfortunately I got this in the log :

The plugins I mentioned should work on there.

Sure. But correct me if I'm wrong and got it totally wrong; these plugins don't do exactly what fastscan does (creating 1 channel list based on the official provider's list), right ?

That is exactly what they do.

I'm so sorry that I've been misunderstanding this. All my apologies for the time I've lost in between

Anyway I've just tried to give them a try but they seem not to be installable on my machine (dm920) ;

- SatScanLcn IPK can't be installed from /tmp (compatibily issue ?)
- MisPlsLcnScan : I don't see any ipk in your repository.  :(

There are a few reasons why we want manufacturer support.

The most important is that we want a way it to make sure things are fixed when they are broken, we can't make stable images for end-users when we don't have that.

We also want support and cooperation when we want to develop a new feature, to make sure nobody starts inventing their own wheels, or when we try to get rid of those wheels (like now happens with the transcoding proxy).

As to DMM, it is extra complex because their Enigma is closed source, which means the driver API needs to be reverse engineered, DMM for example has a history of chosing (on purpose?) different ioctl's.

Wether or not it is illegal what other do, I don't know if they have an arrangement with DMM to officially get the drivers, or if they rip them from DMM's DreamOS image.
I don't think the new Chinese DMM minds too much (like the old German owners used to do), as it means they sell more hardware (to people like you) without having to spend a penny themselfs...

In that respect its not much different for most OEM suppliers, they wouldn't exist (and make money) if there wasn't an OpenATV making free software for them...

All of that is way beyond my knowledge and my understanding so, as I said, I completely respect your decision. Thank you for the explanation :) it helps to understand the choices of the team (even if I regret it).

Just for your information I'm using NewNigma² (not openatv). I find the image wel made for the use I do of it. Among all images I've tried on it or on other stb's, that's the one I did prefer (after OpenPLi).

i dont have the choice... OpenPLi refuses to devekop for Dreambox machines.

Eh, wrong, Dream Multimedia refuses to provide support for that development.

Besides that, there is always a choice, if this is so important, don't buy a Dreambox.

Alright. I remembered it was something like that. Sorry for not being totally accurate. By the way, it means all teams developing for DMM are doing this illegally and DMM can suit them ?

At this point I preferred the design and price of Dreamboxes over Vu+ or other machines. These features were more important than fastscan capability but I miss OpenPLi images anyway :) I'm not here to demand any kind of work for Dreamboxes, I respect your choice (or the one of DMM). All what I was asking was if the fastscan feature could be "exported".
