Configuring samba server on openpli 7.0
alex46978 15 feb 2019
Hi.
Help me, please to configure correctly samba server on openpli-7.0-release-vusolo4k-20190128, for maximum unrestricted access for my local network devices for media playback. I have popcorn hour medaplayer. On previous image Openpli 6.2 i was able to play video files connecting to samba share on my receiver. But with Openpli 7.0 i'm getting endless bufferisation when i try to play a file. I knew i should make some changes to smb-user.conf file. But what changes should i make i don't know.

I have no clue what you are asking.
Either it connects, or it doesn't connect. And if it connects, it has access, there is no concept of user authorisation on an STB.
What changes are you referring to?

Here is comment line from file smb.conf :
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE !!!
# ADD YOUR GLOBAL CHANGES TO smb-user.conf !!!
Does it mean something?
It connects, everything is browsable, but when i try to playback mkv file on popcorn hour media player l get endless bufferisation.
I think some settings in smb.conf limits playback of media files.

Sorry to say it again...
Here no issues (when using VLC) with my Apple-TV...
But I remembered from the last time I tried the Apple-TV has issues with files > 2G... but that is not box related.

I have the same problem but unfortunately no one wants to listen and one gets the same answer all the time that there is nothing wrong.
We listen, but nobody can reproduce it. And if we don't know what is wrong (if something our end is wrong), we can't fix it.
There is nothing in samba that would restrict throughput, there is nothing in samba, and nothing in the OS, that restricts access to files in any way, shape of form.

Can VLC play bluray full file from a hard drive? Like INFUSE app

But why on openpli 6.2 witht it's samba there is no problem with playback on mediaplayer? With openpli 7.0 and it's samba i stuck with bufferisation.
Maybe this parametrs has influence on playback:
oplocks = yes
kernel oplocks = yes
smb.conf in openpli 7.0 has different parametrs than openpli 6.2

Add the changes to smb-user.conf, in the [global] section, restart the box, and check if they make a difference.

Can anyone share smb.conf file from Openpli 6.X?
Can you tell me if you've fixed it? Maybe must also change something
alex46978 15 feb 2019
here you go, original config from 6.2 release:
https://raw.githubus.../samba/smb.conf
Thank you. Unfortunately that didn't work for me. Is it possible to remove that samba release and install the one that is included in openpli 6.2?
WanWizard 15 feb 2019
I wouldn't have thought it did, these is no change in config between 6.2 and 7.0.

Try to add that line to smb-user.conf, in the [global] section:
[global]
strict locking = no
That worked for me.
WanWizard 15 feb 2019
If that works, is that thing trying to create multiple r/w connections to the same file?
alex46978 15 feb 2019
Popcorn hour media player A-400. Playback of mkv video files. I don't know whether he create multiple connections or no. But obviously not write, only read.

The file smb-user.conf is situated at root/etc/samba/ folder. Open it in any text editor and the line:
strict locking = no
in the [global] section. Save the changes. Type the command "/etc/init.d/samba.sh restart" in telnet to reboot the samba. Or reboot the receiver.
