dream-explorer it's a nice plugin to manage files/packages on your box (haven't seen it in downloads nor in the forum),
especially usefull for installing ipk/tar.gz packages, with this plugin you don't need telnet to install them anymore :D
simply put ipk/tar.gz package in /tmp, then:
run the plugin > browse to /tmp > choose package you want to install > OK > confirm and ... done!
/you may need to restart enigma to see newly installed plugins/extensions/
----
unfortunately to install dream-explorer you have to use telnet (last time? ;) )
ipkg install /tmp/*.ipk
restart enigma

just use:

- menu - setup - software management - install local extensions

there is no need for a plugin like you posted if you ask me ;)

maybe for you it works, but I tried it before with no luck...
got .ipk package in /tmp
then software management > install local package >
> options: 1. hdd 2.internal flash
I'm choosing 2
then: "No displayable files on this media found"
so, probably I'm doing something incorrect, but what? where to put package to install? ;)

ipk must be in the /root with this standard feature, not in /tmp

on the Glassfibre 1GB DVB-C...

it's a "standard procedure" for sure, but VU it's my first box with E2,
in E1 local packages were installed from /tmp,
so I assumed that /tmp is a proper localisation ;)
thx you very much for explanation

I'd use the harddisk if you have it. It's faster than flash, and it doesn't eat RAM like the /tmp does. Especially when you forget to remove the file afterwards.

Often, I just install them from a shared network drive on the PC. No need to FTP.

tar.gz is NOT for Eniga2 images, it uses *.ipk

on the Glassfibre 1GB DVB-C...

I'm sorry but I don't understand this reply.

Do you mean its impossible to use / unpack tar.gz files in an Enigma2 image.
I don't get it. Maybe its not the "standard" way to add enigma2 packages is there is such a thing as "standard".

On the net there are many packages for enigma2 containing for instance picons or skins that use this tar.gz format.

Most of them work fine and some of them indeed do not work properly. On the other side I've seen many ipk package that don't work properly either (no (working) uninstall routine for instance).

It would be very handy if an option could exist in OpenPli - like in many other enigma2 images - to unpack/instal these tar.gz files. L

Hi,

when you install .tar.gz opkg does not know about it and it cannot be removed easily anymore. Have you tried telnet and then tar -xvzf?

ciao
