The VU+ remembers the last channel you've choosen. So, just zap to a family friend channel before switching it off.

If you turn the box off using power switch at back while its playing a channel or for some reason it loses power, then it does not remember that channel you are currently watching, and when switched back on will not automatically zap to that channel, it will zap to the channel that was currently playing before the last successful deep shutdown or restart, thats unless a startup channel has been specificly set prior.

On the other hand switching the box off using the power switch or disconnecting power may cause it to lose recently set timers or settings also, if you are changing a load of setting or adding a heap of timers, then be sure to do a restart afterwards using the remote, else all the hard work may be lost if power is cut or box it turned off from behind. If setting timers using webinterface, make sure to click the "write to memory" button, it safeguards the new timers against a power cut.
