Hi Guys,

I have a dm 800 clone and I can't find the download section for it.
I have a DM 800 clone slim with sim 2.01.

Were does one find the downloads for clone images of OpenPLI ?
I think the downloads in the main pli-images site are for the original boxes only

Regards Spuddy

Our images have been tested on dm800 hardware, and they work. Of course we do not test them on clones, so indeed, they might or might not work, we don't know.

as stated many many many times before and in also our forumrules ;)

we don't support cloneboxes as we don't own one or test our images at it

so try them at your own risk!

on the Glassfibre 1GB DVB-C...

This is working on my dreambox, but I'm interested in how these other images exist but the owners of the sites and software don't make them?

That image is NOT made bij PLi, it is a "modified" PLi-image with changes to run on a clone.
We are not happy with it, but we know this things will happen cause PLi is open source.

We will not support these images.

Yes. But the downside is that people will associate issues with the PLi team, unless the person who made the image replaces all logo's and name (we do allow it to be called "Based on OpenPLi").

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

I understand copyright, but those who modify are different, not all normal.

Because clones are pure ripoffs of an original product.

The clone builder didn't have to invest in software or hardware, he only copied the thing.
So there are no extra costs for a clone, that's why they are cheaper.
But you always need to remember what started it in the first place.
DMM was kind enough to try and make a nice working product.
They invested in hard and software.
And clone builders are now trying to get a piece of that cake they didn't pay.
So it's a kind of theft.

Now what would you like, an original product or a product from a criminal?
And since we do not want to be associated with criminals we will not support clones.

And apart from the moral reasons, there is also a very practical reason: how could you support clones without having them available for the devs?

if it were clone, then no modifications are need. since they are counterfeits, they lack TPM authentication and of course their hardware is different in quality, its up to fabricators to make image for `em, so you probably don`t get many help here.

btw, you are not so clean if you support this game by buying counterfeit ;-)

I would dearly love to purchase a genuine Dreambox, but they simply are not available here in Australia. Not readily anyway. I managed to find an official "dealer" in Sydney. He had no idea about the product and said it would be months until he could obtain the dm 800c I wanted.

However clones are everywhere. Readily available, any model you want.

I feel that Open Pli and DMM are simply punishing me for being in a country that DMM choose not to service properly.

Maybe if an OpenPli was available for clone at a price that could be passed on to DMM?

And the "unknown hardware" argument is invalid because it is obvious that image changes are in fact nothing more than counter-measures aimed specifically at causing trouble with clones.

PLi isn't punishing anyone as PLi is independent from any manufacturer.

Why don't you order one at a webshop. For instance several of our sponsors deliver all over the world but I'm sure there be more shops closer to your home.

1- Why don't you buy one by an international delivering internetshop?
2- Although not being a dev, I can assure you that supporting unknown hardware is impossible. Clones are seldom/never identical to the originals.
3- Of course PLi isn't "punishing" anyone at all.
4- Of course DM will never allow any cashback-situation as suggested by you.

Edit: it seems that Frenske has approx the same ideas!

For shame. I want genuine DM800 and open-pli but I get clone DM800 and Merlin Excalibur, through no fault of my own. I have money but no-one will take it. Surely a missed opportunity - it reminds my of the music industry.

Please do.

And Open-Pli team, you speak of morals but knowingly semi-brick users dreamboxes. Many of these users have no concept of genuine or clone, and are not capable of repairing their units. You should be targeting the clone manufacturers, not the users. I know so many people who are upset after you changed drivers; would it have been so hard to cater for clones, or at least warn users of what was coming?

there is no restriction for clones in openpli code. all is made by dream multimedia in their closed source modules.

support for clones means additional work with hacking binary loader and/or modules. so image teams do not implementing protection, protection need to be removed, and this job is refused by that team for good reasons.

btw, there is genuinedreambox plugin which can tell to all "innocent" peoples what they bought.

You should be targeting the clone manufacturers, not the users.

I don't think you have got the message: PLi isn't "targeting" anybody. It simply isn't possible to support all kind of unknown hardware.
