Hello,

I assume you have Beta testers, so feel free to delete this post if it is unwelcome.

I'm using the beta from December 27th and the CrossEPG plugin seems to have some problems;

1) If downloaded and installed via Plugins, trying to uninstall it via Plugins doesn't properly remove it. It remains in the GUI.

2) When installed, trying to Configure it first insists on a HDD or USB drive to be available. This may not be a bug, I don't know. However I don't have a HDD and have yet to succeed in getting a USB disk working properly with the image, so it means I cannot use CrossEPG.

Thanks,
Lee

1. This is a 3rd party plugin. When the ipk package does not have the right comments for removement we cannot do anything at PLi,,, you have to report this to the creator of the CrossEpg plugin.

2. I do not understand.

Hello littlesat,

I do not understand the possible issues well enough to reach any meaningful conclusions on what exactly the problems are.
I was just raising the subject here so that better minds might look into how the CrossEPG plugin is working in the current Vu+ Duo Beta.

Thanks for replying anyway,

G'day leecovuk
I have vuduo running 20101225 beta 2.0
I installed crossepg under local extension (crossepg-enigma2_0.3.2-svn-33_mipsel.ipk)
because I had the .ipk laying around
all seems to work fine (so far)

Hello again and thanks.

I am not sure, but I think the remove/uninstall problem became apparent with today's Beta.
The Configure 'problem', I think, was previously evident.

I am not currently running PLi because I am doing something else which might need an up-to-date stable release. (I'm using ViX 1.3 right now) So, I can't further test CrossEPG on the latest PLi 2.0 at the moment. I don't think I could really offer any more information than I already did, but I would have tried and looked into it further if I hadn't changed images. I'll be coming back to PLi anyway very shortly.

Hello again,

I'm using the latest Vu+ Duo PLi Beta now and the issues I mentioned still seem evident.
Regardless of the reasons, which I probably wouldn't understand, could somebody else please install CrossEPG on the latest Beta and see if :

1) CrossEPG 'Configure' insists on a HDD or USB drive being in place, or else Configure doesn't open. For all I know, this may be intentional.

2) Trying to uninstall CrossEPG does not completely remove it, even after restarting the receiver.

I'm just trying to help the developers and testers here by highlighting what seem to be one or two issues.

Thanks,
Lee

Hi!

That's right that CrossEPG insists for HDD or USB, because it seems that it doesn't want to store EPG-Data on Flash. I connceted my NAS via network browser and Configuration of CrossEPG comes up recognizing automatically my NAS as storage medium.

I didn't try to uninstall it, because for me is working perfect in combination with CoolTV Guide /images/smiley/pfft.gif

I use latest OpenPLI 2.0 Image.

Hello LittleBoy (I remember some German from school days, although that translation sounds a little odd)
:)

I assume the CrossEPG disk requirement is intentional. If not, presumably it will be corrected.

I also assume the uninstall issue will be noticed by others and corrected.

By the way, what is a 'NAS'?

ok, thanks. I can add that to the list of things I don't know about.
:)
I've seen the Network and Mount functions, but I have yet to understand them.
I've posted in the Support forum asking about USB disks; I think disks and drives are my current main confusion.

Hello again,

I decided for now to abandon using USB sticks in general with the receiver. I now have a Seagate portable drive which connects via a USB port.

In CrossEPG Configure, it says a drive must be mounted in rw.
Can somebody please explain what exactly that means?

Also, can you please explain specifically how I should install and set up the drive, whether exclusively for CrossEPG or anything else?
I believe I should always 'initialise' it, but beyond that, I have little understanding of things such as mounts, including what they are or when they are needed.
If it helps in any explanation, I have no current plans to 'network' the receiver or the Seagate to my computer.

Many thanks again,
Lee

rw = read write
as opposed to ro (readonly)

a hard disk is a waste doing only crossepg .. use it for anything you need storage for

it should be plug and play .. plug it in then format it using
setup /system/harddisk initialisation

Hello nfnovice and thanks.

So for CrossEPG purposes, I don't have to consciously 'mount' the drive? It sounds like that's the case.

Should it make a difference which of the following I choose in CrossEPG Configure?:
/autofs/sda1/
/media/hdd

Thanks again,
Lee

ok, thanks again nfnovice.

I know I'm making a big deal out of this, but I'm still having disk trouble! I get the feeling that the Seagate isn't 'auto-mounting' properly, or has intermittent problems doing so.

I've read bits and pieces on various suppliers' images where similar problems are being reported. Possibly related to restarting the receiver or powering it up.

Are you having 100% success using an external drive and CrossEPG?
If so, can you kindly tell me exactly which image you are using?
Of course, even then, there may be a whole range of other factors.

Thanks again;

my vuduo has internal 1tb hard drive
all my boxes have either internal disk or use network disk

I never use an external usb disk - only usb sticks or CF cards for other purposes ..

ok thanks.
I do suspect there is something wrong with the handling of external disks. Either USB sticks or my new Seagate USB portable drive have been problematic.
Presumably if there is a problem, it will be detected and corrected by people who know a lot more than me about it.
If I dig around here there might be one or two topics about it.

By the way nfnovice, seeing as you seem pretty knowledgeable on disks, can I ask whilst I'm here ...
When do we use the Mount options which seem related to Network?
Do we only need to 'mount' a drive if there is a networking purpose? Is that what mounting is for? ie to allow other devices to 'see' and 'write to' a specific disk?
(I assume any logic here applies to any Vu+ Duo image, not just PLi ones)

Thanks once more,
Lee

without going into great detail
two sides of networking and disks

1. server - > install nfs-utils and then edit /etc/exports - determines what other people can see

2. client - > mounting to other servers - install newtorking wizard see what you can see

local disks whether usb or internal should look after them selves in the mounting stakes
