I was wondering if anyone ever uses the NFI-image to flash the VU+.

The VuPlus BackupSuite always builds the NFI-image as well the USB-version.
I personally only use the USB version and have never used at all the NFI version to install the firmware, why should I if I can use the much easier way of restoring with an USB-stick?

My question is, is it still making sense to create this version during the backup?
I think it is only using up harddiskspace.

If there is (almost) no one who uses the NFI-image I'm considering to remove the build process of the NFI-image.

Some feedback would be appreciated

I agree Pedro - I only ever use the USB flash method

I guess its like dreamboxes and serial port - I always use STOP mode webif for them .. But if things realy turn ugly with network .. back to the serial port.

I guess the difference is if your USB port is not working on the VU+ .. then you have bigger problems than putting an image on ..

In case of emergency you can always download the current OpenPLi image in NFI-format and from there restore your USB-back-up-image

I think there is no need to build the NFI-image but if someone thinks otherwise: let it hear

I agree with that.

But still: one of the possible future enhancements of PLi could be to restore an image from the GUI (e.g. ViX-images for the DUO do that, and I think DMM-boxes have that option as well). For that I presume a NFi-image would be needed.

Do you know if there are concrete plans for this future?
Maybe a possibility is the question to make a choice when starting the back-up to make the NFI-image or not

It's one of the suggestions made. I have no idea what PLi wants to implement.

Sounds like a good idea to me. It would be double work to throw it out now, and to "reinvent" making NFi's later on.

Well it's only a matter of placing some # at certain lines to disable it, when needed just remove the # and presto, it works again.

Hello.

Can anyone please point me to where I can find a valid NFI image for flashing with serial cable? I have a VU+ Duo box that is bricked due to old bootloader filled up (= red light, no booting).

Planned to use Vuutil and a null modem serial cable.

But I am unable to find a NFI file anywhere. Does not matter which version as I will reflash with a USB stick afterwards.

Thanx in advance! :-)

Just look here: http://code.vuplus.c...?subdir=2.1/duo
The images from vuplus.com

But I don't think that will solve your problem
