It used to cause less errors than the official server, which caused our nightly build to fail almost every other day.
So there is no perfect solution it seems.

You're perfectly wright. I ass well do not understand the way off action. The current server where oscam is downloaded now is perhaps not the worsed server where sources can be obtained, is well pretty close to that.

Sorry pieterg . Maybe there is a good reason why You and the rest off the team of openpli do not wan't to use the original server for oscam. It is well one off the most stable ones since more then a year now. It actually always was except for about a couple of  months when they had some hosting problems.

 

There was just a big bug into the bitbake files. Which was already there since the introduction of those into open pli. I at a certain moment took over and a bit corrected the bit bake files off oscam unfortunatelly I did at that time not noticed the bug. I even made it worse by making a split out bitbake file for the smart reader utility.

 

It's with the introduction off the lic check ass from pli 3.0 that this bug cames up to surface and so broke the nightly builds. The correction by using svn download dir into the bitbake files solved the problem. But was never even tried by you're team. That's you're team decision.  In the mean time a lot things evolutated.  All which is needed to let oscam download and build correctly whitout breaking the builds. Have been already given by me several times to a couple of team members.  But never used.

 

I can fully agree that you're team decide to not incorporate a correct oscam or whatever other softcam into openpli. But then you have to give the real reason or just maybe that you do not wan't to do it whatever.

 

Do not tell nonsens about that the server is unstable and that .. and that ....  Just tell the trough !

the real reason: just check the forum history for the reason why in the past where at several times no OpenPLinightly builds, because of the Oscam repository and their problems

The oscam open source softcam has a lot of features and settings... So to use it you need to have at least some knowledge... and know how to replace the binary to the most recent one.... .

Well I'm not  a very experienced programmer, but these three commands indeed ran perfectly every time I tried:

Problems with servers happen from time to time to everyone, even PLi's servers.

 

But another approach is true too: the Oscam binary which comes with OpenPLi3, is very, very weak. It's more than 1MB big, and it's damn slow, even changing channels. And it also contains some changes or mods (I bet they are not present in the original Oscam code) - as a result the webif and other places clearly shows missing version information, etc.

Any other binary compiled these days for MIPS platform, or downloaded from oscam's binary site is only about 300k size (even the full-featured one, not the lite version), and runs fast and snappy, and has all the things in place.

 

That's why I just took the courage to suggest to use the latest code and their official server, which apparently now has way less problems than the proprietary hacked ones currently used.

I'm compiling openpli4 (upstream branch), and since the "Merge remote-tracking branch 'origin/upstream-next' into upstream"commit, I get an error message that I cannot fix :

I'm working now to update the base build document. The pli3.0 will be removed. And it will be for pli4.0.

 

Just to know I self use them and it does work fine.

 

Now I clone intitial git with

 

git clone -b upstream git://git.code.sf.net/p/openpli/openpli-oe-core

 

Then cd to openpli-oe-core

 

just type make

 

After this is done

 

type :

 

MACHINE=xxxxx make image

 

where xxxxx  is the build for you're machine  I do have two and do it one with dm8000 and a second time with vuduo2

 

Then I proceed with my feed's build

 

cd further to build directory

 

cd build

 

source env.source

MACHINE=xxxxxx bitbake openpli-enigma2-feed this also a second time for the vuduo2

 

Is this all correct. By me it work's fine like that.

Clone openpli40 by typing ~/openpli40$ git clone -b upstream git://git.code.sf.net/p/openpli/openpli-oe-core

now, since former 'upstream' (OpenPLi4) advanced to 'master', and probably current 'upstream' branch will flow upstream (experimental) again soon, to remove this '-b upstream' from above would be reasonable, to avoid any possible future confusion...
