Kernel of dm800se doesn't have tun support, either as a module or compiled in kernel.
Apart from this, it seems that the various kernel configurations for supported e2 boxes are different. Others have ppp modules, others do not. Others have tun as module, others as kernel device and others do not have it at all.
I can try to get all those defconfig files in sync, if the team thinks this would be a good thing (I think it is).

yes, that would be a good idea.
Just note the different kernel versions for different hardware (one of the reasons why we have differences).
