I'm new to the forum but not to linux receivers in general, but I need some specific help as the other forums that I'm active on have not been able to help as yet.
I'm using a fairly recent open pli build on a trusty 500s, but I'm struggling with trying to block out some problem ip login attempts.
I used to be able to manage this perfecetly fine along with all other kinds of scripts, but the pli image has got me beat at the moment, along with other simple scripts.
Would someone with a little more knowledge than me with pli images for 500s be so kind as to help out with some steps or instructions on how to block out incoming ip addresses. I can't do this at router level so I need to manage this via the receiver.
Thanks in advance,
D

With OpenPLi, softcams are required to legally watch TV using your own subscribers card.
Softcams can also be used to share that card with another box you have in your house. This becomes the grey area, but most providers allow you to do this.
You can also use them to share them with other people, and even charge those people for using your card. The situation has now become black.
The rules are pretty clear, whatever you do with the 'axe' that we provide is your business, all we ask is that you don't pull us into whatever you're doing. Period.

If you want to fix your situation place a firewall appliance between your wan gateway and homenetwork.

It can be done, but as mentioned, I do take on board the comments !
Blocking IP addresses is a function with cron and I got stuck, nothing more than that.

I never used it, so I don't know all the details. After install you will find a file in /var in which you can block ports and IP addresses. Also, don't forget to activate the firewall in the menu "services to run".

How does one need a card for tree to air stations ?I'm sharing a free to air card !
Is this against your rules really curious as to why this functionality is catered for within the image if it is frowned upon?

"Enjoy even more entertainment with more than 240 free-to-air non-subscription digital channels*, which come free as part of any Sky TV Package you choose - that's four times more than the number of channels Freeview has available."

You used to have FTV (free-to-view) channels, like the ITV's and Channel4, for which you needed a SKY card, but no subscription. Afaik since freeview that is no longer the case, these are now FTA.
