Hello folks,

I just did an online update of my DM800 to the most recent Beta image version.I saw that secondstage loader has been upgraded in the process.
Should I worry about the next reboot? Can anyone confirm that my box wont hang on next startup with DreamUP serial flashing beeing the only solution?

Many thanks in advance for your support.

Why do you ask by the way?

I`m asking before I reboot :) I don't own a COM Port in my current computer. Should the problem with new secondstage loader affect me, I wont reboot for several days until I receive a USB-Serial adapter.

I am sorry, I am not aware of any problems with new bootloaders on the dm800?

Problems that were previously affecting users after the update from 3rd Sep 2011. After doing online update that upgraded the secondstage loader to the newest version, Box refused to boot. It was advised to flash secondstageloader first and then a new version of *.nfi firmware.
Please correct me if I`m wrong and PLi was able to sort this out. I really would like to avoid situation that my Box wont boot the next time and I`m still not owning a USB-Serial adapter.

In the Git Openembedded section it says only on the DM8000 bootloader 84 is required no mention of the 800 model..??

dreambox-dvb-modules: 20110902 update

And required dependencies:
-bootloader #84 for dm8000
-kernel nand driver patches
-new flash partition layout for dm8000
-generate jffs2 summary for dm8000
(and disable unused summary support on other dreamboxes)
-use new dreambox-buildimage-native

I am sorry once again, but troubles with bootloaders/second stage firmware, always remind me of clone boxes...

No problem I can understand from where you concerns come. I can assure you that my box is an origin DM800. I still would like to see/hear from people with DM800 that are brave enough to do an online update - check the installed SSL version - reboot and get back here to let me know if I`m paranoid or my concerns were right. <_<

Sorry cannot report back, clone owner online updating is over have to flash a new image + Clone BL to fix this

Thanks very much for the log, im sure the new BL is introduced for dm800/se also the git says otherwise, which did save me a serial BL reflash.

I really don`t get it. I`m assuring you that my box is origin and you keep telling me that I`m in trouble because I own a clone box?
Happysat, do you have an origin DM800 and online updated it to the most recent version of OpenPLi 2.1 ?

Updated my DM800HD PVR, NEW SSL84 arrived and new dream-DVB-Drivers.
What is a bit strange as PLI team stated before that drivers and SSL won't be upgraded unless they were final (and not beta anymore)
Checked out dreamboxupdate.com and the SSL84 and applied drivers are still beta.

Can any1 explain what happened. Just a stupid wrong human update commit?

My original box is booting and working fine with the commited SSL84 and latest drivers.

Hi again. After my USB-RS232 Adapter arrived I was brave enough to finally reboot. No problems occured. My DM800 is working fine, I see that the secondstage bootloader has been upgraded to the #84 version. Now could anyone explain me if I`m safe and up-to-date or should I apply the posted re-flashing instructions on the Homepage?

No, if you're seeing #84, you're safe.

The problem with some boxes is that the online upgrade to #84 fails, leaving you with a non-booting box...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Dream multimedia advises to reflash your image after updating to SSL84.
It has something to do with advanced bad sector technology that is introduced with SSL84 version.

If you didn't reflash your box yet, please do so at an aproppiate moment.
If you install and use pli autobackup this whole reflash proces is not a real burden.

@theparasol

I stuck to your advice amd decided to re-flash my box. After bringing the receiver to flash mode I was very surprise to discover that the SSL version is still 82...
Flashing the bootloader #84 - rebooting - flashing the current 2.1 image was the following procedure.
So I think it would be wise to point out the difference in the secondstage loader version reported by "opkg list_installed" and the actual version beeing visible during the box startup or flashing mode.

It was already reported that the SSL isn't always, I personally even think never, updated to 84 if you do the usual update the box from the menu.
Thats why there is a warning with skulls on the openpli website.
You have to check and apply SSL84 manual, after that do flash the latest image for your box
