After the introduction of the 3.1.1 kernel on the VU + models the backupsuite didn't work properly for these machines because of the changed file system.

The BackupSuite is now adapted and should work again on all VU + models regardless of file system (and of course still on the ET models)

The backup process now takes a little longer than you have been used to but is still acceptable, on my system it takes about 5 minutes compared with previously about 2 minutes and 50 seconds. The images are larger than usual.

The BackupSuite is extensively tested and should now be working properly.

Please don't use the USB only option to make a back-up, it seems there are problems with this option.

The USB only version works fine on all ET models, because of the different way of handling the VU's it's necessary to copy the whole system in the work directory, sadly this seems to not work on the USB-stick.

It shall take some time because I don't have to much opportunity to test the whole procedure (it seems like someone over here want to watch TV using the VU+, can you imagine, watching TV when you can tinker around with the VU+ :D )

@ Gutosie
Thanks for the confirmation!

Probably this commit should fix that:

That would be great, this means the whole copy procedure to the $WORKDIR/root would be obsolete like the handling of the ET's?

Just before going off to work a new version of the BackupSuite, everything is working fine now thanks to Milo for the adoption of mkfs.ubifs.

But options are now tested and also restored without a problem.

I getthe followingerrorplease help
backup suite 8.0

VU+ SOLO
BACK-UP TOOL, FOR MAKING A COMPLETE BACK-UP
Version 8.0 - 02-01-2012
Pedro_Newbie (pedro.newbie@gmail.com)

Please be patient, a backup will now be made, because of the used filesystem the back-up will take about 5-7 minutes for this system.

Create: root.ubifs
Create: kerneldump

Almost there... Now building the USB-Image!
Image creation FAILED!
Probable causes could be:
-> no space left on back-up device
-> no writing permission on back-up device

Time required for this process:
4:16

Please try the new version and report if you still have problems, if so please state which option you are using, a backup to HDD/USB or the USB only version.
Also if this error is coming back check if the backup is properly made.

The problems you are having are caused by the package mkfs-ubifs which can't be found
Please try the following
-Start telnet, such as for example DCC_E2
- give the command: opkg update
- give the command: opkg install mkfs-ubifs

This should install the required packet, if not then I'm out of clues.

Maybe someone from Pli can shed some light then.

Dear Pedro, i am testing your suite to make a plugin for Bh images.
I had already on bh the patch used by Milo and i can confirm that the first version works with Ultimo tested both in hdd and in usb and the second version doesn't work.

P.s. i am using an own plugin and a modified version of your script backupsuite.sh
I will use this header in the script to leave all credits.
Let me know if it is ok for you.
