Welcome to the forum. I've made a new thread for you instead of posting it in the "PLi Wiki" thread.
Many answers to your question can be found in our wiki: http://openpli.org/wiki

Most people avoid using dreamup unless forced to. Try flashing as designed, through the DB's web flash interface, covered in the wiki:

Install the latest PLi® software image on my DM500HD

Note: If you're using a clone, newer versions of DreamUp ( >1.3.3.4) will not work... and don't flash a non-clone image to a clone...

Easy way to flash a DM 500 HD.
Shutdown your box, flip the switch on the back.
Switch on your TV.
Push and hold the powerbutton on the front and switch on your box.
Now, after a few seconds, a dos like screen will appear with all the network settings.
Flash your box using the webinterface.
Make sure you first flash the experimental image from DMM first to update your bootloader.
Then flash the OpenPLi image and you're in business.

I'm not even trying to decrypt the previous posts, if you respond, please do it legibly...

INVALID IMAGE (OR OLD VERSION) means you have to flash the latest SSL.nfi first, before the box will accept a new image containing the new SSL through the web interface...

Official SSLs can be found at http://sources.dreamboxupdate.com/

05 September 2011 - Improved flash error correction
Starting today, images for the models DM500HD, DM800 SE and DM800HD PVR include an improved flash error correction feature.
In order to benefit from the improvements, it is required that you either flash the new image with the latest version of DreamUP (V1.3.3.9) or flash a new second stage loader ( DM500HD DM800HD PVR DM800 SE ) before flashing the image via your browser or other means.
If you use the online update functionality, the new second stage loader will automatically be installed after rebooting.
It is recommended that you flash the new image for improved stability.

Then DreamUp is the only choice, V1.3.3.9 or higher as mentioned in the quote above, unless a clone... If you can't get anything to work you'll have to contact your seller or dreammultimedia (unless a clone) directly...

Hi there,
I'm going to jump in on this thread as I have a very similar issue to michele01.

I have a new DM500HD, which was bought online, not from dream multimedia, so I guess it is most likely a clone. I have had dm500's in the past which I always flashed using dreamup and a null modem cable without any problems. This isn't possible with the DM500HD, so having read the Wiki on this site, I attempted to flash using the web interface as suggested above. Similarly to michele01 I am presented with the message " INVALID IMAGE (OR OLD VERSION) ".

I have two useful pieces of information to date, from hemispherical,

"Note: If you're using a clone, newer versions of DreamUp ( >1.3.3.4) will not work... and don't flash a non-clone imageto a clone..."

"INVALID IMAGE (OR OLD VERSION) means you have to flash the latest SSL.nfi first, before the box will accept a newIMAGE containing the new SSL through the web interface...

Official SSLs can be found at http://sources.dreamboxupdate.com/ "

If I flash the latest SSL.nfi, in order for my box to accept the image, will I brick my box in the same way that a new Gemini image could??

Assuming this is the correct course of action, and it won't brick the box, am I safe to load the latest openpli image to my DM500HD ?

Any help would be great, thanks

We don't support clones as mentioned several times before.

Contact your seller if you believe it may be a clone and have them verify it is original and/or supply the information needed. There are websites for clone boxes, but this isn't one of them.
