I have been using OpenPLi on my Dreambox 800se for many months but suddenly a strange problem has come up. Occasionally sound disappears and nothing helps - restart or even switch at the back. After some time it comes back.
I had the same problem on Newnigma2 before I switched to OpenPLi. First, I used Newnigma2 for many months and everything was OK but then these strange sound disappearances came up and even updating Newnigma2 did not help.
It was one of the reasons I switched to OpenPLi and the problem was gone. But several months have passed and the problem is back.
Has anyone experienced something like that?

Let me add one thing.
There is no crash, so obviously there is no crashlog.
But maybe there is some kind of log in the system, which can help me determine the cause of this.

I'm sorry for writing another post but I cannot edit the previous ones.
There is one more thing I want to add. What sometimes helps is disconnecting HDMI cable and connecting it again.

I have noticed that sound often disappears when I switch my Panasonic P42X10Y to standby.
Then, after switching it back on there is no sound.
As a temporary solution I have switched my HDMI cable from HDMI1 input to HDMI2 input on my TV.
I will keep observing the situation.

Well, it looks like I am the only one with sound-disappearing problem.
Following on my previous post, I can only add that the same happens occasionally on both HDMI-1 and HDMI-2 inputs on my TV.
Sound comes back after I disconnect HDMI cable and re-connect it.
Sometimes, it also helps when I switch my TV off and on using the button on TV panel (standby does not help).
Could it be TV fault?

This seems to be the exact same problem as I'm having with my DM800se.

Suddenly the sound simply disappears... In my case the sound also starts cracking up sometimes before it goes away.
Sometimes all it takes is a restart to get the sound back, but sometimes the problem still persists.
And as you you describe, disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable resolves the issue.

I can't either seem to figure out what's causing this,
but it seems to happen more often when switching beteen different satellites, possibly also HD channels, but there's no clear pattern.
I actually have thought it to be a problem with my LCD-TV (Philips), but after reading your post, I'm starting to think this might be related to the DM800se.
I have had this problem using the image from LT-team, but the problem also happened after i newly switched to latest PLI-image.
So it seems to not be related to this specific image. Maybe it's a hardware issue or some common driver(s) causing this...
I really don't know...

But at least after reading your post I think I'm not the only one having this problem.

Is the sound coming back when you switch off/on your Philips TV?

Hi,
OK, so there is 2 of us with sound disappearing on DM800se. Mine is original so I assume yours is too.
However, I'm not sure if our problems are exactly the same but they are definitely extremely similar.
In my case, it probably never happened that sound disappeared while switching channels or satellites (which happens in your case, I understand).
Here, the problem is only when I switch DM800se on from standby or deep standby.
I'm not sure, though, but there may have been an occasion when I switched the TV to standby (DM800se stayed on) and when I turned it back on, the sound was gone too.
Now, I am thinking if this may be an issue with a HDMI cable.

And as for the question from littlesat, it sometimes helps when I switch my Panasonic off/on (but not using a remote; only using the button on TV) but only sometimes. In my case, the best way to restore sound is to disconnect and re-connect the HDMI cable from the back of DM800se. It works in 90% cases, I think. I wonder if disconnecting and re-connecting the HDMI cable from the back of Panasonic will work as well because I have a hard access to the back of my TV and never tried it but I assume it will also help.

Yes, the box is an original DM800se.
As to the sound disappearing while switching channels or satellites, I don't mean the sound disappearing in the exact moment i switch.
But more like some time after (5-20 min.) I can't tell for sure if it happens more frequently then (maybe it just seems like it..),
but at least it can happen at any time while the box is in use. And also as you describe when switching on from standy.

Haven't really thought about changing the HDMI cable :P,
but I will definitively give it a try and see if that resolves the problem.

Well, I honestly can't tell, cause I have always assumed the problem is the DM800se itself.
So I've actually never switched only the TV on/off (as I can remember...). But surely that would be a good idea to start eliminating the source of the problem...

One thing you could try is connect to the TV using the component output and see if the problem still exists there.

I think you mean scart. DM 800se does not have component output.
Yeah, I might try it. When sound disappears I will just change the output to scart and see what happens. But my guess is the sound on scart will be OK.

OK, so it looks like DM8000 may be affected as well.

Disable HDMI-CEC function on your TVs. I had same problem but on different receiver (motorola for IPTV) and LG Plazma and when i disabled their HDMI-CEC, sound stopped dissapearing. Maybe it is the same with DMM too.

My Hdmi and Optic cable goes directly to my reciver. a Harman Kardon AVR 355.. i dont want to use HDMI audio cos it gives me delays. all other gameconsoles, mediaplayers etc connected to the reciver gives audio.. but somethimes it can be a real pain to get the audio work again after it disapeared on the dreambox.

I assume "disabling HDMI-CEC function" is not a simple menu option on my TV.
I guess I would have to mess with some sort of hidden service menu, right?
My TV is Panasonic TX-P42X10Y.

Today the sound suddenly disappeared while watching (Not from standby).
I turned the TV off and on again and the sound was back.
I have yeat not changed the HDMI cable, but will continue using the old one while investigating further...
So atm. I can't tell if it's the DM800se the TV or the HDMI cable causing this...
