mp4 playback is no longer working. on playback it simply stays on a black screen and does not play.

Same here, worked fine recently but not now.

AFAIK there is no such thing as a "quicktime" codec, there is a "quicktime" container, which essentially is mp4, the wording "variant=(string)iso" confirms that.

It looks like h264 is not recognised as being offered by a hardware decoder.

opkg install gst-plugins-good-isomp4

Strange thing is that these files played perfectly up till last week.
