Any changes to the system, according to the licence they have to respect, must be in the open...

Not the drivers, of course, as those are HW-related and must be written for each box, depending on its HW...

WRT modems, for instance - remember? They were forced to open up. And you know what happened? A huge boost for them, from the community. Their machines suddenly became much more capable and hence 'wanted' on the market!

Otherwise it would be yet another sad story...

It's a GUI.

And, yes, it's a waste of time speaking to any apologist, from my considerable experience in the area...

GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html) has to be respected, that is the point here. If not - see the court case with DMM...

Otherwise we are speaking of the usual corporate hypocrisy... DMM were caught in the act, whatever the pretence ("system" or whatever else). I hope this won't have to be the case in the Marusys box(es)...

You can think what you want gorsky.

Xbmc have nothing to do with this. The Xbmc part is open.

that's the story, you like or dislike i worry that it will not change.

Exactly the same intransigent arrogance DMM have exhibited - and lost!

And they are losing with the community, too... For a long time now...

This is really sad, if that is the official Marusys line!

Edit: why is the XBMC part open? Because of Marusys? Hardly... So, how are they contributing now? They take from the scene and they will not give anything back? They deserve to lose, too!

Principly the same apologist stuff can be seen here by some DMM trabants: http://www.et-view-s...egen-VU-Duo-vor (read on a bit 'till I start asking the pertinent questions and start bringing down the masks... :D )

It was wrong there and it is wrong here!

Thanks. A long read, but not that much information about the history and the real roots of E2.

You welcome!

It was to me... I had less concrete info, just vague stories...

This put some weight around certain names and processes on the scene for me... If you read carefully...

And if you weren't privy to those goings on back then... and I certainly wasn't...

gorski i read your posts here and in xbmc board and frankly i don't like you and your way.

Dmm and Marusys are not hobbyest teams but are companies that have invested their money and energies in this market.

They have their logical line that is different from your and mine.

Yes they made errors but their work have to be respected too because the market have its own laws and is an hard game.

You think to understand all and to be the owner of the thrut in the name of the open source higher ethical.

I don't think it is so simply. And i don't like your approach, for this reason i will no more discuss with you.

bye

The feeling is mutual, Baccio! I know arrogance when I see it and you and those companies certainly "understand each other"...

"Surprisingly", there is no "understanding" of the "other" (O. S. guys) from any one of you three...

Perhaps if you/they showed PROPER respect and recognised the originators of XBMC etc.

But we can all dream, non?

My I add that this kind of clashing with opinions and polarisations among users is pointless.

I think its great that companies are basing new products on opensource.

Lets wait for this new product to arrive in the stores!

There is not polarisations.

I think that is useless and not good that users going around in boards attacking companies like Dmm Marusys and others without to understand what they are talking about and creating confusions and bad feelings.

This post in Xbmc board is ridicolous. Who cares in Xbmc world about Dmm and court judgment  with Marusys ?

These trying to move ppl against companies is bad for all sat board and our hobby.

Possibly the only one who has no idea what he's talking about is you, Baccio!

Open Source depends on a free and open debate, free flow of info, exchange of opinions, just as free, democratic society at large depends on switched-on, clued-up, interested and competent citizens.  All else is utterly uninformed and democratically uncivilised nonsense! If there is no point in this, for you (or anyone else for that matter)... oh, well...

On the other hand, there is possibly a whole lot of (usually countable) reasons why no debate and "staying schtum" might be in the interests of corporations and some political forces and even whole governments...

Corporations and governments must be constantly checked and double checked, as a societal and economical - not to mention political - corrective. This model (mutual control at all levels of political, economic and societal but also public life as such) is the minimum civilisational norm that we have today. No one came up with anything better so far. But maybe you are that genius... :D :P :D

Or maybe your interests and such corporate interests coincide quite nicely... In which case one should simply say that (I can respect that!) and not try to sell this rather unintelligent fog (which really gets my goat going )...

I think its great that companies are basing new products on opensource.

I think so too.

But this is not the point.

The point is that this approach that don't understand reasons and reality but is simply pointed to move bad feelings is only destructive and today it could seems good for one idea (open source) or right against one company fault (dmm) but tomorrow will turn against because it is only ignorance and demagogy.

I admired Pli in the past because of good ethical example about open source insipration and the respect of all ideas. But now i see your skin section full of people that posts skins breaking copyright, i see threads where ppl make publics private sources and decompile file against the will and the right of authors and nobody of Pli team taking a position.

All this starts to seem to me going in a wrong direction.

Hope to be wrong.

When you find a copy righted skin you can notify us and it will be directly deleted. Unless I personally think it is ridiculous to copyright a skin that relies on opensource software to make it only available for one image team - we still remove it right away - without any discussion - as you should know from the past.

Sorry - it is almost impossible to screen everything that is offered to us.... that is something I refuse and I think the poster should be responsible for that. If you find a ipk please report it via the report button on the forum.

So point me now to the illegal skins I did uploaded to our 3rd party feed - I'll remove them right away.

Thank you littlesat for this good signal.

I understand that you cannot screen everything and that the skin copyright is questionable.

I only want to draw attention about the difference between to promote open source (I asked many times to Vu+ to make PrismCube full open) and to not respect other works, sources, rights and make a bad campaign against companies.

It's a preventative "campaign" - it's not against a company - yet! - but against a certain type of behaviour/thinking/"just doing business"...

However, if they do the same thing as DMM and DMM sued them... Oh, well...

So, this is a "campaign" to make them think and not to behave a certain way, as there are indications they might go down that road...

Hypocrisy comes to mind, if they do...

Also, GNU GPL...

Hardly nuclear physics - anyone can understand it...

That's good to hear. I mean it! That's how it should be, for sure! I compliment you on that, as I would compliment and support Marusys if they were to do the right thing!

However, it sounds as if they are not leaning that way and that is worrying, so I feel "justified"...
