I can read and I have read. BUT you didn't read all the problems these approaches create. And the users have to live with them ...

As this is a FE thread therefore I tried to explain. The original FE thread is full of how do I backup and why is my /usr mount gone after a reboot replies and I have been running similar threads myself, so I'm very sensitive if such things are not mentioned.

Praising an image or a device manager which is not publically available except in your image will not add more value either and the same is if I would always tell the users just what my Plugins can do better :)

It seems obvious to me, an IT lay person, that you have no clue how PB Expander is working, as Stibbich explained... But you keep ignoring what doesn't  fit... Niceeee....

If you want another quick way to reduce the image size, you can stuff everything under /usr/lib/enigma/python into a ZIP file, and OpenPLi will happily use that instead of the raw files...

Very interesting, only i put a frame arround "stuff everything".

If the plugins folder is included inside the zip file (called enigma.zip), the box wont see any plugins after a reboot, the rest is okay.

Which i think is normal course its not included on the 7025 also:

zip -m -r -9 enigma.zip *.pyo Screens/*.pyo Tools/*.pyo Components/*.pyo Components/*/*.pyo

No problem :)

But one question remains (im trying this on a 800/se):

I did perform a online update after the creation of the zip file and those folders/files Screens/Tools and Components came back.

How does this work on the 7025 enigma.zip when performing a online update, is the zip updated with newer files, are they written back as my example above or 7025 users must never update ;) .??

The 7025 "knows" that everything is zipped and updates the zip file instead (which indeed means that upgrading E2 on the 7025 is usually faster than on any other box..)

To get this for other boxes, you should build your own image. If you do that, you can also omit things that you don't want. That'll be more efficient than removing them later.

So, in conclusion, can OpenPLi please look at Flash Expander for their own images, please, so that all machines supported by their images can have their Flash "expanded", if a user needs it, please?

I am using a different (OpenPLi based) image but I think many a user would be helped and rather grateful for it...

P.S. Is there such a mythical beast as a good quality Device Manager that works with OpenPLi correctly - anyone knows? (Maybe it would need an Autofs OFF switch, to work properly?) Just curious...

For umpteenth time: not all of us are or should or even have to be like you, in IT terms...

Where should I send the quote and do you need ABAP4 or Java code ?

I already wrote that instead of spending <1h fixing FE I preffered to spend <<2h and created Flodder - which works also with PLi images, is easily to backup and restore, autoswaps and will never get you a full or defragemented Flash anymore or needs any partitioning or superior device manager.

That is, when it is reworked for an image. But when it is - no problem! What are you on about?!?

I know that it works, but if it fails you start from scratch as there is no simple and user friendly backup/restore possibility. I have the same problem with Freeze, so I know what I'm talking about. But Freeze keeps at least the Flash image intact and unharmed.

As FE only expands /usr you will slowly defragment and fill the remaining flash too and soon /lib will not match /usr for example until the whole Flashimage is unbootable without /usr.

If it looses the /usr mount in /etc/fstab you are int trouble too, as there is no simple way to remount without re-formatting and re-doing.

But there is no point to print out the list once more, just because you ignored it. And yes some of these things are fixable but as you ask others to fix them this is not the point either.

I haven't ignored anything! But you have!

It is not meant to be completely restore-able! You missed the point completely!

I'm supporting Users since 9 Years and belive me the users will mind, earlier or later if their box doesn't work after an upgrade and there is no way to recover.

And if I can do better I simply have the ignorance to do better.

What are you talking about?

There is no mount in /etc/fstab - and for sure not the complete /usr is expanded - what *dio* is doing such things?

Maybe someone who copyied the staff from dbox2 not in the right way (???).

You can "steal" the stick of the running e2 - after the crash e2 restarts and you can look tv...

No reboot necessary - else if you have made 10 updates...

My backup has a size of ~1MB - and if I flash the box I have a complete working image withing flashtime + 5min - and not a old one - a complete new one with uptodate plugins, enigma2, whatelse...

This explains how FE works pretty well.

Stibbich knows that better than you, for crying out loud... One of the guys in the PB Team started the ball rolling (with a few others) from the DBox2 days. Having studied it, he made something more sophisticated and more discerning, as to what is "expanded" etc. But you keep ignoring it, as if you "know it all" and obviously, from what you were writing, you do not!

Moreover, "Not everybody wants it to work the way you imagine it" comes to mind when one wants to reply to you and how you do your plugins... Ever crossed your mind? May I remind you that this is a thread about FE, not Flodder or whatever. While I do not mind reading about it, I do mind if somebody keeps telling people off because they are allegedly "advertising other images" (and I was not - I was merely informing people of various possibilities and asking if something like that could be implemented in OpenPLi), whereas you are constantly and shamelessly plugging your products... Kettle calling a teapot black...

What is most annoying is that when it comes to specific images, that you seem to be pontificating about, you obviously have no idea how this stuff you are criticising actually functions...

Else, one might think you incredibly arrogant, if you allow yourself to talk "critically" (with such "absolute assuredness" about yourself) about something you have never tried to begin with... Beggars belief...
