Hi Forum.

I have upgraded from a 2011 image to the newest (3 days ago) image. I had a working system, before upgrading.

I use DM8000, smargo smartreader+, CCcam.

CCCam.cfg says:

SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0 smartreader+
SMARTCARD CLOCK FREQUENCY: /dev/ttyUSB0 6000000
BOXKEY : /dev/ttyUSB0 xx xx xx xx

where xx xx xx xx is my receiver ID converted to HEX via a simple converter

dMesg says: usb 1-1.1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

lsusb shows BUS 001 Device 001: ID 1dób:002  twice, and also ending with 0001 twice.
Total 7 lines, Looks a little funny, is that normal ?

myIP:16001 showing CCcam running.

CCCam info says no or unknown card inserted

I have tried all 3 available CCcam from plugin menu - same issue
I have checked smargo to be in normal mode - is OK

I have tried a lot of things, for the last 3 days, and running out of ideas.

Anyone have a clue, what is wrong ???

Why not use internal cardreader?

AS far as I know, there is an issue with internal reader is 5 volt, and the card can only handle 3.3 volt. The external reader is 3.3 volt.

So the card will burn, using the internal reader.

And since my old image has run perfectly for 2 years, it must also be possible with the new image. I hate to give up.

The only thing that has changed is the image and CCcam version. So maybe some setting must be different ??

Just to make sure, I have dusted off my original receiver yesterday, the card is working fine.

I have also tested my smartreader in windows, and it also seems to be working fine. Setting is normal (not dreambox).

Can anyone see from my post above, what is missing, or wrong ???

If you changed the CCcam version, it can well be that the new version can not read the older card. There are more cards out there that won't work on the latest CCcam.

May I ask what card it is?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Its a white Viasat card, with blueish arrow, and a green square saying START!. There is no date on it, but its aprox. from 2011

I have tried with CCcam 209, 221 and 230. It does not seem to make any difference. Must it be older ? What was the CCCam version around when I installed this in 2011: OpenPLi-beta-dm8000-20110102

AS far as I know, there is an issue with internal reader is 5 volt, and the card can only handle 3.3 volt.

that is nonsense, any smartcard can run on 5V.
The 3.3 / 1.8 smartcards just provide the option to run at lower voltages, it's not the other way around, that you would blow them up when you apply 5V.

OK, I just read some posts on it in 2011, where someone recommended using a smargo in stead of the internal readers. But of course it would be much easier to use the internal readers, but I would hate to burn my card.

An example here:

But if you are sure, I will risk it, and give it a try immediately. Are you sure ????

And for the settings, all I have to do, is to replace ttyUSB0 with sci0, right ??

And use the top reader, chip down. But I would like to hear, yes I am sure first :)

Correction, it seems that I only need one line in CCcam

BOXKEY : /dev/sci0 xx xx xx xx

where xx xx xx xx is my received ID, except last digit, converted to hex.

Is that correct ?

OK, I took the jump.

But in the internal reader, its also says no or unknown card inserted.

With all 3 CCCam, I only have the BOXKEY line in the CCcam.cfg.

when a card overheats, it is not because the voltage is too high, but because init fails, and is retried in an endless loop.

For some smartcards, the internal broadcom readers do not work very reliably, so such an endless loop might occur, overheating the card.
Most likely, that is where the story originates from.

But it isn't a 3V / 5V issue.

OK. I have moved the card to internal reader, but still I have no or unknown card.

Any ideas ?

perhaps try an older version of the softcam? (the version you were using in 2011)
That's about the only thing which might possibly cause this.

Everything else in the image does not intervene with the smartcards.

I was stupid enough not to take a backup.

I think you can download 2.2.1 from the feed?

Yes, I can download 2.0.9, .2.2.1 and 2.3.0 from the feed, but that have already been tried, with both internal and external reader.

Entitlements says no or unknown card inserted for all of them. I have of course restarted CCcam everytime I switch between them.

Do I need any lines in the CCcam.cfg just to have the card to show up under entitlements ??
