Forget the plugin, forget the settings. For 99% of the users no transcoding settings are necessary.

Where such data?

Ukraine, Russia and Belarus internet is not cheap and there is no speed. Man decides to any bit rate he can watch the video. He can change the settings to see if the picture stops. In each of their souchae.

No need to decide for everyone like them better.

No point in transcoding if you can not change the settings.

Tomorrow samsung company decides that you'd better dial to subscribers via ssh. It will be better for you?

I hope you will return it. Because 98% of users are not able to go to the receiver by ftp

I guess OpenPLi is not meant for such users.

Well, for people that can not even use ftp, probably no E2 image is meant for them ...

Do not write nonsense. I repeat, the client or buyer buys already tuned receiver. Settings he can then change from the control panel or plugins!!!

I repeat. do not decide how it will be better for others.

2 people have already written a plugin that was better.

Others just put up with it

Bullshit.
But if you can't use computers, you shouldn't buy one, except you are willing to learn.
And unless you are an Electrician, you shouldn't do electric installations ...

I repeat, the client or buyer buys already tuned receiver. Settings he can then change from the control panel or plugins!!!

The client buys from Vu+.
Vu+ delivers official images for their boxes.
If you don't like that one for your box, complain at Vu+.

If you generally like it but miss some features, use the VTI or BH images, which are closely based in the Vu+ original image and just bloated^Wextended with more features.

However, any image except the original one is based solely on voluntary work of an open source community.

Positively spoken, open source projects give you the right to participate in development and the right to change/modify if for you own needs.
However, there is no guarantee that the project admins will accept your work or suggestions.
Negatively spoken, your user rights are: Take it or leave it.

I repeat. do not decide how it will be better for others.
2 people have already written a plugin that was better.
Others just put up with it

Then use any of the images which include the "better" solution or just take the "better" solution and use it on OpenPLi.
That's one of your positive rights with open source.

And although the OpenPLi devs are among the most ignorant, most self-overestimating, most stubborn and most arrogant ones, they are right in one point:
Erik Slagter's transproxy is better than the original one.

With the devs loving to tread water and not to move a single inch forward, you can be sure they won't move backward, even if you beg for another decade.

Once king Erik and his royal suite is done "considering" I will make transcoding configurable through the web interface, if not with them resp. their help (as requested) then against them for the user's sake.

But you really can stop bitching and whining here, your repetitions just add to the pain reading this thread already is.

One more thing:

For the "perfect idiot" users you mentioned, an E2 box really isn't the way to go.

They should buy a Humax, TechniSat, whatever.
Something which is served "finished", which they can't break but neither configure in detail.

And even if they are willing to learn a bit and step into the E2 world:
For E2 beginners, OpenPLi is still about the worst possible image.

It's the least optimized, least tweaked and so on image.
It doesn't even come with a decent skin for the LCD display of the Vu+ ...

If you really need the latest features added by the box manufacturer and want an image which is optimized for your specific Vu+ box "right off the feed/image", you are much better off with an VTI image.
They implement new features more quickly, work around quirks in extensions and packages and so on.
But they also implement a lot of bloat to satisfy everyone.

The main benefit of OpenPLi is not a user-friendly out-of-the-box experience, but that it comes right out of the compiler with zero fixes and very low bloat.
So it gives a good base for own optimizations and tweaks.

SpaceRat Judging by that nonsense you write - probably learn in school. You do not know absolutely nothing about the market of satellite receivers.
Developers OpenPli prepared and get money from the manufacturers. I'm working on the company's products made a choice which team will write image our equipment while we chose OpenPli. I always advise all just them, but with there approach - this may come to the end.

People buy VU + Duo2 already tuned!

They can not afford this receiver and have no desire or that tune. In this case, the person leaves on a business trip or on vacation, taking a mobile phone to watch the news in another country via wi-fi. And it is much easier to change the settings with the remote control, you call me, so I went to his home.

If you all like it, go wash your feet and go to bed. Do not go into the conversation when talking to adults.

You wrote all that you have everything working. Then what are you doing in this thread? Go have a smoke, if the mother does not forbid!

Understood?

There are plenty other imageteams crawling around screaming "pick me!"

So mister колбаскин its finally time to wake up and leave, you can bullshit whatever you want but the devs here have busy paid jobs and contribute to openpli pure for the fun of it in their own free time.

And that goes for all OpenPLi members. If only I'd get money for 10% of spent time, I'd be quite lucky. But it is simply 0% nothing more or less. I can't comment for other image builders of course.

One more thing to consider (and of course to discard) came to my mind ...

it handles all of
- live transcoding
- file transcoding
- live streaming
- file streaming

So actually on all machines with transcoding, the code for internal streaming on port 8001 is fully redundant.

If E2 wasn't hooking to port 8001 itself, you would get identical effects as the internal streaming provides by adding
listen = 8001
to /etc/enigma2/streamproxy.conf

So the logical conclusion would be to just merge the transproxy code into E2, replacing the current code for port 8001 and wrapping the transcoding code into ifdefs.
This is even more the logical way to go as more and more new machines offer transcoding.

PS:
Yesterdays change indeed fixed the broken streaming using e.g. DreamDroid:
By simply configuring DreamDroid to use port 8002 instead of 8001 for streaming, you can now stream transcoded live TV to your Android device.

Actually I may at some time integrate the transcoding part of streamproxy into enigma, because that is where it belongs. The only thing that withheld me was the knowledge enigma would have to undergo major adjustments to get the complete url (including parameters) up to the point where the streamserver resides and where the service is selected.
