But with ext4 you can handle ext3 and ext2 too!

oeps sorry did not test that yet. Then it's logic to remove it ;)

And what exactly do you expect to be improved in version 1.4.4? Just want to keep you from disappointment...

Install Pau via the menu - plugins - green button - extensions and restant Enigma.

And keep fingers crossed that it will remain working. If the tax guys find out the fun may very well be over.

The could force VU+ to make a driver change so the extension doesn't work anymore?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

If there is taken any action then it is more likely that VU+ has to pay taxes on the next shipments when they are imported because the receivers are capable of recording despite what VU+ is claiming. In the computer systems of the customs authorities VU could be flagged as high risk and therefore receive the "proper" attention.

You completely miss the point.

Recording on the VU+ Zero is disabled ON PURPOSE because in some countries the manufacturer needs to pay additional taxes for a device than cat do recording. VU+ choose not to pay the tax and disable the recording capability to fulfill the requirement. From "somewhere" a piece of code appeared that re-enables recording. So it's not a "plugin", it's simply something to circumvent legal restrictions. Therefore you should not buy a Zero or SoloSE if you want to do recording, simply as that.

I think I don't miss the point because I was the one who pointed this out in: http://forums.openpl...ndpost&p=467958

Out of the box the receiver can't record, after a "mod", so replacing the manufactures firmware, it is capable of recording. Comparable with DVD-players which can be made regionfree by modding the firmware.

It is the same trick why receivers had/have a build in modem, although it wasn't working as such in most cases, just to place the receiver in a different tariccode and therefore making the difference if they have to pay 4.6% (or even 14% depending the land of origin) or 0.0% import duties/taxes in the EU.

Welcome in the Customs world and tax evasion / avoidance

And apart from all guessing and speculating no (potential) buyer has any indication at all that the box would be castrated.

So the logical step is to return the box to the shop because it can't live up to the expectations as expressed to the customer.

Which expectations are not fulfilled then? And on which images?

The reasons for that PAU plugin not being in the image by default are more of a political nature, not technical at all.

The whole idea behind open source software - hence the name "OpenPLi" - is that everone can see and check what is in the image, in addition to being able to adapt and expand it freely, and to be sure of continued support for your system independent of manufacturers or developers, and the capability to run on any hardware that meets a few simple requirements.

The closed source drivers and the resulting kernel version and signature lock-in are crippling that freedom already, but we have learned to live with that handicap because of Broadcom's policy of never releasing any datasheets or other information that might enable someone to make use of their hardware outside of their infrastructure.

Any additional closed-source binary "blob" is seen as an attempt to further limit that freedom. That is also the case for things like the opera binaries for HBBTV and closed softcams like CCCam.

The HBBTV plugins at least have the dubious advantage that a manufacturer actually supports them. Personally, I couldn't have cared less and I regret ever letting them seep into the images. As for the particular case of the "pau" plugin, VU even denies its very existence (though we all know they either wrote it themselves or gave someone the resources to write it for them) so that makes it just a binary blob of unknown origin. Not something you'd want to run if you care about free-as-in-freedom software.

It also opens a door for manufacturers to have a way to lock "features" to their receivers. It's probably a matter of time before we'll see CI+ "plugins" appearing for various receivers. If you know what's good for you, you should refuse to install it, and more, refuse to buy a specific receiver for being able to run it.

Regarding the origin... it was build on "/home/hschang/work/build/vuplus/vuduo2/build/tmp/staging/mipsel-oe-linux/usr/include"

Binary is not obfuscated (or encrypted, not even stripped), so we know the origin. Denying the existence is rediculous.

But who gives a shit about violating (GPL) license? So many projects exist (eg Black Hole..) that violate the license.

It seems nobody cares, people only care about feaures (at any cost).
