Is it possible to automatically save "Timeshift" before a timer starts ?

Senario:

I was watching a Film with adds every 15 minutes. I paused the Film. went for lunch, then resumed playback. However I forgot about a timer that was scheduled to run. The timer started and I missed the end of the Film.

OSD "Tuner has switched to ...." or words to that effect.

I am talking here as a single tuner box (XP1000) with 32GB USB. Which is quite happy staying on timeshift for more than 6 hours.

TIA Colin

You can store a timeshift as recording.... When you move beside pause perfrom that... But then still you can get a timer conflict ...

@erkman, thanks

this (dialogue) is getting more bizzare, by the minute.

"Is it possible to automatically save "Timeshift" before a timer starts ?"

(Yes) or (No) imo would be good enough.

cheers col

Lost current timeshift program

Question: Is it possible to automatically save "Timeshift" before a timer starts ?

Hi,

Please check this one:

http://forums.openpl...ording-service/

This is the same bug!

In multituner setup the STB only use tuner A (and not tuner B) so it always zap.

In your bug description the problem is the same, instead of recording on tuner B since tuner A was busy with your timeshift, recording is forced on tuner A.

@ colin what did you mean with save automaticly the timeshift? save automatic your timeshift as record to watch them later or should the box prefer your timeshift and ignore the timer record

Just to be short.... A timeshift start, which started a timer recording basically already exists.... Start an instant recording....

so in fact what littlesat is saying is never to use timeshift again, just start an instant recording and use this for time-shifting.

if there is some timer set which blocks the instant recording, then you know that you will have a viewing conflict.

in that case you can decide either to change/delete the timer, or not to watch the programme as you won't be able to see the end anyway.

one thought, though : this makes any timeshift pretty useless.

wouldn't it be better to start a timer sanity check when the user starts a timeshift, informing him/her of an upcoming timer event ?

Hi,

When you start a timeshift you never know how long it will last before starting over the playback,

but to implement this this will mean a new option:

When a timeshift conflict with a timer action:

- stop timeshift and start timer action (default)

- save current timeshift and  start timer action

- keep timeshift active and ignore timer action

(timer action: zap, record or zap & record).

That sound excellent.

And seeing how the existing menu for when you stop timeshift has the option to "save timeshift in movie directory"

If this option could be activated / deactivated as a default somewhere ?

->

Then better start an instant recording.... a timeshift is not intended to store at all...

But anyone could suggest improvements....-or- offer us some improvement code as we're opensource...

a timeshift is not intended to store at all...

eh
Not intended ?

Is it not incredible nice that a feature has more possibility's than it was designed for

Maybe it is hard for you to consider that there are people who want save something that they just have been watching.

But then you are to late with an instant record.

But think of it !! Not only to see it back at that moment with timeshift, but save it, so you can watch it again and again.

Just imagine

But not intended, thats true.
