On DVB-C the easiest is to use the cable scan but you need to know the reference frequency and the network ID of your provider, so once you enter those informations it will scan all the channels and create them in the order defined by your provider.
But when using another box than the cable provider provided one, it happens that either you need to amplify or on the opposite reduce the signal power to avoid a tuner saturation.
