Hi everybody,

I'm on the last updated 09/14/2015 day.
Everything works apart from recording on a 32GB USB key, I can see the files but they are 0 bytes.

I conducted a 1-minute test recording each time.

Key: 1: USB Sandisk USB 3
         2: Corsair USB USB 2.0

Always the same result

I reset the USB Key from the menu vuzero +

Is there a particular configuration?

Thank you

You have to install the pau plugin to enable recording.

The Zero is sold as a Zapper, it can not record. If your vendor told you it can, bring it back. If you didn't check and you assumed, you bought the wrong box.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

No, it does not. Go to the shop now, buy one, connect it, and record. And you will see it doesn't. And nowhere on the packaging, on the website or in the manual it says that it is capable of recording.

It only records in your install the PAU package, which is a binary hack that patches the drivers. Which is exactly that, a hack, no guarantees whatsoever, no-one knows what it does, and if it will still work after an upgrade. You bought a box that is not made, and not sold, to be capable of recording. Period.

If it doesn't work anymore after an update, and we not made this absolutely clear, then owners of a Zero will come here to whine it doesn't record anymore.

That doesn't mean it's supported, it doesn't mean it isn't a hack, and it doesn't mean the box is sold with the capacity to record.

It's like with CCcam (or any cam): if that stops working tomorrow, you're on your own too, not the manufacturer nor your image builder will be able and willing to fix it when it's broken.

And I find it important that people know this. It isn't a cheap box without a reason. You run the risk of having bought an expensive paper-weight.

That was not what I meant, I was just pointing out to you, that it still exists in the feeds. As I was in the assumption that it was removed ;)

We had an internal discussion about this over the weekend, and the team has decided that since it doesn't have any impact on the license (it doesn't violate GPL), and no impact on the code (it's an external binary process), that it falls in the same category as a softcam, and we allow those in the feed, so why not this one?

I was not aware of this (but I am not part of the dev team ;) )

Apart from that I don't use it, I don't like anyone meddling with the drivers, although there is "IMHO" a high probability that the source is Vu+ ;)

.....And nowhere on the packaging, on the website or in the manual it says that it is capable of recording.

It's the other way around: it doesn't say anywhere that the box is not capable of recording. Look for specs of STB's, and you'll hardly ever find any specifications about being able to record.
And the box being advertised by VU+ as 'Zapper' literally means nothing at all. as the old Solo was and is still advertised as such while having no recording issues at all.

And so, if you buy something, I think it's reasonable that you check wether the device you're going to buy, meets your expectations, either by getting informed from the shop or the manufacturer. If the device is not advertised as being capable of "something", you can take the risk but there is no ground for complaints if the specific feature isn't available.

This not only counts for recording capability, but for lots of other features, users "assume" to be present, appear not to be available, and then go complaining on this forum.

People, please use your common sense. If a receiver is very cheap compared to other receivers, would that be because the manufacturer is a charity organisation or because it simply lacks features the more expensive modules have. Think twice, it's not that hard to understand.

That is a rubbish argument. It doesn't say it's an expresso machine either. So should I expect it to make coffee?

That is not a reason for buying it. If I need a coffee machine, I buy something that is sold as a coffee machine.

If that hack stops working tomorrow, and you bought the box to have an el-cheapo PVR, you then have a useless box. And nobody is going to help you. If PVR is only a nice to have, well, enjoy it while it lasts...

Maybe we can ask mr. H S Chang to compile another hack, as he did for the recording, to produce something which can make some nice cup of coffee.

Mr. Chang is an employee of VU+ which also commits to http://code.vuplus.c...us_experimental

In the pau code you can read a part:
