Hi,

I have an ET9000, a Windows 7 PC and a Windows 10 notebook.

My question is should Samba work by default and should my box be visible in Windows Explorer (Network) all the time?

I get the impression that it often disappears from my Windows 7 PC and is never there on my Windows 10 notebook, when going to Network.

What is the best way to make sure it stays there all the time?

Thank you.

Yes, it works. And yes, by default. And no, not always.

Samba works with the old netbios broadcast system, which in Windows is deprecated since XP. It requires that the box and the PC are in the same workgroup, and it requires that it has a masterbrowser configured that both can use.

If you meet these criteria, the PC should query the master browser of the workgroup when you open the network (previously network neighborhood) and show you what it has found.

Regardless of this, you can always access the box from the explorer using \\<ip-of-your-box\Harddisk, or if ahavi does it's job, via \\et9000\Harddisk.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Indeed, even though ET9X00 was not visible in Network, I managed to connect with \\ET9X00\Harddisk.

Thanks.
