Weird.... and on other channels you can remove it...

B.t.w. when a channel "lowers" these stuff you can limit the VBI hider... and to overlay more area is I think not done..

Do you have it working on all other channels but this one?

There are indeed several services that have those dotted lines in more lines than only the top line.

I believe I read somewhere in this thread that HD channels don't have those lines at all? But ERT HD on 3E also shows them now. I think they weren't there some weeks ago.

An HD channel should not have those lines natively. But sometimes upscaled video contents is being used, making those lines sometimes visual.

Hd channels can show them when the signal is used downscaled on other networks...

I have two suggestions around 'hide VBI':

1- Give the option to hide 2 lines (instead of the standard 1 line), as there are several services that would need this to show a clean picture.

2- Enable the option also for streams. There are streams (both IP-streams and when using a remote tuner) that also have an 'ugly line'.

For streams I cannot set the flag... So there we need to define something else... It was actually intended for dvb only as usually streams do not have vbi (except when they are orginating from a settop box or something else for illegal streaming?)
And I Reserved now 1 bit to hide them... When I need to hide a bigger area on de mand something else that needs to be hidden... Do you have a clear example where I can find such service? To make it a settings is stuped because on some services you hide then too much... But it could be somehow defined for those crasy services...

ad 1) I think http://forums.openpl...ndpost&p=599119 is an example. There are some more, but they're seldom. So the default (= 1 line) should not be changed. But maybe an option, when 'hide VBI' is already enabled, something like 'hide an extra line' or so.

But on second thought: there are not many services with this handicap, so probably not worth the trouble.

Hmm, actually BVN on 19.2E is one of the services that has a double dotted line at the top (so enabling 'hide VBI' doesn't hide all the noise).

Then we better could send an email to bvn so they do corrigate that thing... I can imagine bvn needs it because it is in some places distributed on cable networks... But do it twice... (Cascade it?) this also might mean e aspect ratio from bvn is one line smaller an crapped (and possibly clarifies why the picture looks a bit worser than expected due to the rescaling of one line less)

Please note that it is a simple patch to double the blanking lines via a config. A bit more when you can set it per service (extra bit)... when you do it per channel it may get a bit to complicated. So I'm searching for a good compromise. This option was meant for the wss only and nof channels/providers who made it even worse....

Some boxes also offer to resize the decoder frame... So we could also add an option to unhide a complete overscan area per channel....

Wierd.... Then BNN is doing "dirty" stuff...

The feature was intended to remove the WSS-VBI lines.... when some channels make a really crap off the overscan it is very difficult to resolve....

Yesterday I tried to add an option for a wider black box on top of the screen. Currently the screen is defined at boot-up and on the skin OSD size... To instantly resize that black box on top it needs a restart of E2 -or- actually (relativaly a lot of) extra code....

Some boxes offer to resize the visial screen via procs... then I think it should be considered to add an option "hide overscan" besides the hide VBI option and use these procs to zoom-in the played video picture for such channels that really makes "troubles" in the overscan area... (but not all boxes are offering these).

Or to add a second screen the same way you did the current one, but now 2 lines in height. The first option remains as it is, the second 'opens' the second screen on top of the first one.

That is a lame method that does work but I do not appreciate... As basically it should be possible to resize it....

I have a better feeling to add an option per channel that removes stuff from the complete picture by zooming in....

A kind of limited overscan per service.

And all the hardware supports that?

Nope.....

but when we start to cover upper lines more and more... then we get a complete square.... etc....

Then I prefer to add an "unoverscan" option per channel... That not all hardware supports it, is a "shame" when the hardware supports it...

Well, so far it's mostly about 1 line, and in very rare cases 2. So that's far from making the picture 20:9 or so :)

And adding an option that is not supported by all boxes would be a shame (or even a 'if this or that box, don't show this option')
