Getting Debian on your settopbox with Barry Allen:

htpc@Desktop:~$ ssh root@192.168.1.207
root@192.168.1.207's password:
root@dm8000:~# ba.sh debian_extract debian
-------------------------------------------------------------
Barry Allen Version 11.93
-------------------------------------------------------------
extracting debootstrap ...
-------------------------------------------------------------
executing debootstrap for preparing Debian ...
be patient - this normally runs quite long ...
but it is worth waiting !

Dreambox Dm8000 with all hardware addons donated to OpenPli. No interests anymore in policy of CanalDigitaal / M7 group and now-a-days channel encryption (like CI+ / HD+).

Good luck Enigma2 / OpenPli, it was fun with Sky Movies and so on, collected a nice collection of movies. Now back to basic boring lineair TV with KPN iTV (VDSL2 pair bonding 219 / 63 Mbps).

The VDSL pair bonding is excellent for... torrents to NAS in higher quality then HDTV (Like Dolby-TrueHD or DTS-Master-Audio soundquality ) :D

You are welcome and can even write a how-to for others, but technically speaking the available informations should be enough if you read and follow them.

Don't forget to do what the ba shell script says at the end of the debian extract (setting a root password in ba.sh chroot imagename) otherwise ssh logon will not work becuase telnet with empty password is forbidden in Debian.

But if you have a mouse and keyboard attached locally to your dreambox the Debian logon will work nicely if you boot the Image with BA.

The user 'debian' and 'root' have a default password 'dreambox'.

So then access in telnet with that and type

passwd

to change password.

How do you do a root password in ba.sh chroot imagename?

Please read the documentation ...

ba.sh chroot imagename_of_your_debian_image

passwd

then enter 2x your new password as usual ...

Can I use the software update for the PLi,  if everything is set up?
'Check latest image driver', 'List available image drivers', 'Compare all image drivers dates' etc., whether it goes on the base software, or how? For me, it would be also important for the daily renewal of the PLi, and I'm not sure if I can get this part right. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I have not tried anything yet, just read the manual.

Sorry, but you start to ignore my advice a little bit too often and don't even read my replies

PLi doesn't support Multiboot, and gutemine doesn't support PLi - guess what this will mean for your question ???

Especially as it is totally useless, because DMM has not updated the drivers of the old Dreamboxes since quite some time ...

What are you expecting from a Software that is frozen ?

And I see that different - that's what a community is for - feel free to translate the latest German one - or write your own ...

If not ... create you own Plugin for installing and booting Debian ....

OK, it was fun, Debian on DM8000. I quit barryallen bootmanager.

It all works ok, but the cpu of DM8000 is just too slow for nice Debian experience. (a lot of cup of coffees between commands LOL) :D

So back to OpenPli only DM8000 device. (here with Ziggo DVB-C with only unencrypted channels this because i use KPN ITV for lineair tv, but the DM8000 to get DolbyDigital 5.1 on Dutch public HD channels from NPO.
