Hi,

Reading this thread:

http://forums.openpl...ss/#entry623074

I was thinking of an improvement in Hotkey:

Can we imagine to have in the bottom a new option (color button blue for exemple assigned), that will swith into a "key discovery mode".

In this mode by pressing the keys on the RCU it will show up which "name" this key has in Hotkey.

So people searching which name is associated with a key can saw it in Hotkey.

We can start by just displaying the name and later on we can also imagine to reuse the Wizard remote control (or the OpenWebif One) on this screen and show which key is pressed with its associated name to make it user friendly.

This will also allows help end-users and developpers to report RCU "wrong" key assignment (or missing one), like in the exemple where we don't know to what is assigned the miraclebox "blue box" key and that should normally open the mediaplayer.

Today there is no tools to press a RCU key and know what which name it refers too.

Exit key will leave this mode, I think that this key exist on every RCU and is always properly assigned (like the color buttons too I guess).

Except for 'green' and 'red'.

And Up/Down/Left/Right as well (which is a pity and not required at all).

No: for Exit & Extra keys.

So a total of 6 keys is excluded from 'auto discovery', while only one is required (e.g. Exit to leave the setup)..

Up left right down should not be defined as hotkeys... Makes no sense... Same with exit and ok... Note that when you define a key with normal and long the normal response of that key is delayed by 100-200 msec... (And maybe this is the exact reason why other images give a slower reaponsive feeling)

Yes but if manufacturer wrongly map the keys you cannot detect it easily if you are already in the Hotkey configuration screen.

And my question is still unanswered:  "And what will it does when there is an unknown keys?"  For exemple a RCU with strange icon or that add a new special key.

That's why I still suggest to have this separated "Key Discovery screen" where only Exit will be effective key to leave the screen and all other key will return there name and value code (and perhaps to display the assigned function).

First it had to be add in the keymap, and then in Hotkay itself... Basically the issue is that in E2 there is no key defined or known in the UI as Discovery key...

Probably it is better to 'redirect' it in keymap to a known 'key' we already have in Hotkey... (by using a key in Hotkey that is not available in that box and then name it "current function/Discovery"...

Actually it is a 'pain' these manufacturers do not come with remotes that have E2 functions....

I know some tool, getrc, that was for dbox2 and later for Coolstream boxes, just Google for
"getrc.c snowhead"
snowhead is the author of the tool, getrc is now GPL
is that what you are looking for, I had a look at the sources, you´ll need the hex codes of the each key pressed

There is a tool evtest if i recall correctly. You can find what the rc sends to box.

PS. You need to stop enigma first, before run evtest.
