I saw in the latest changes that the drivers for the Vu+ 4K boxes support QuadPiP now. What surprises me is the fact that I haven't found anything in the forums here about it.

I downloaded the images of the 25th and 26th but couldn't figure out which one might include this feature. There was also mention of a plugin that might be required, but that's the only place I heard about that, too.

From Erik's remarks I deduce that there are serious issues to get it working under Openpli (soon) and that there were problems with the drivers as well (what were those btw?). So I tried VTI to check it out and it didn't work 100% (especially not with a Solo 4K) but well enough so that I would miss this feature if not included in Openpli, much more than HBBTV or other stuff.

Vti is a closed source gpl license voiding image for Vu only. So we even can't see how they worked around these kind of issues.
We tried it and experienced issues. Especially with full hd 1080p skins which is out default it does not perform as expected (even single pip doesn't). So we reverted the patched in develop until vu solves their issues.

Hi,

VTi is not needed for this because QuadPip is directly from VU.

QuadPiP cannot work without adjustments in enigma. It's not completely standalone.

Anyway, we had these adjustments in our development enigma version for two days and I reverted them. It just doesn't work well, really. The drivers will need various fixes to get it working.

Besides that, I don't like the idea of a QuadPiP plugin. I'd rather extend the current PiP mechanism with multiple PiP windows. It shouldn't be too hard and the interface VU+ uses can fit in there very well. You'd have to ask Littlesat very nicely to do the work in that area, because it's mostly Python stuff (that I am not familiar with).

Does "split-screen" work in full 4K on solo or Ultimo 4K now, or only part of the screen?

Does quadpip work on vti....? As it can't work with 2160 p output... and FCC is a nightmare for ci(+) and our Dutch cards... it can't work here...
And good look with using your closed source license violating image.... we can even not see their work-a-rounds...

i have just a 1080p TV - and there it works.

Here even on 1080p output it did not work....As the PIP windows could not be properly positioned by the drivers.

And in fact it is tripple PIP... one of the screens is the main screen and this is the only one that could be correctly positioned...

But it might also be could be that VU launched a fix in between and we're not notified about this yet...

The biggest problem from VU and oe-a and OpenPLI images is that they are still building on a fork of DMM... and continue their own enigma2...They do not even try because of that to be compatible with non VU enigma2...

VTI is a GLP vigilancing image with tweaks nobody does know what they do based on VU's fork from DMM...

Littlesat, you're mixing up a few issues.

#1) on HD output, QuadPiP does not work, several issues. No problem with positioning the PiP though.

#2) on UHD output, QuadPiP also does not work, but the normal PiP also has a problem: it can only be positioned in the top/left half of the screen.

All of these have been reported.

good luck with vti image, it is a very buggy image.

and also it didn't have hotkey or ofgwrite or MovieArchiver.

for what do you need QuadPIP - you have only two eyes and two ears ;)

On VTI QuadPiP works flawlessly on the Ultimo 4K (1080p) and pretty good on the Solo 4K. On the latter it takes sometimes a few tries until all pictures kick in, but eventually they will. This is not meant to praise that image in any way, just for info.

I wonder though if the VTI team actually needed or had the time to develop workarounds for this plugin as both the drivers/updates from VU+ as the image are dated 21/22nd and 22nd of August, so there must have been very little time if any to do that unless they got a heads up a while ago.

I know that the Openpli team is against plugins that should be part of the image and I'm all for that, too, but that may not be possible here as Erik keeps pointing out. One feature of this plugin is the possibility to save several 4-channel configurations (I don't even know how many of those or if there even is a limit) which is really helpful if you actually use the QuadPiP often enough. I have my doubts if this can be transferred into the image if the solution would be to enhance the existing PiP functionality as it may be planned. I'm still a big fan of how the current PiP solution was implemented at the time by Littlesat.
