But, we can make the update by the VU+ or it is absolutely necessary to flash totally again ?

And if i use the VU+ will it be the samba problem ?

You can do the update by using the online update of the image. It's not necessary to flash again.

Yes, on VU+ there was same problem as described above, but after the online update samba was fixed.

Ouf !

I was afraid !

In the first update, I lost Samba, but everything returned when I do it a second time.

Ouf !

So Samba does work? No free space is not a samba issue. What exactly are you trying to do? Copy to where? What is "where" exactly?

How is your box HDD formatted?

If the movie file you're trying to transfer is larger than 4 GB and your HDD is FAT32 formatted, that might be the message you see.

So, a Solo4K with a local HDD? And you are trying to copy a file to the \\box\Harddisk share? Do you actually see the box and the share in Explorer? And if so, can you access the share and do you see the files? Can you access any of the files?

Just want to make sure I know exactly what your situation is before I start guessing...

Is your box up to date? So no OpenPLI 6.0-rc, but OpenPLi 6.0-release? And completely updated (repeat software update until no more are found, then make sure the box is restarted).

Define "extern HDD"? A USB disk? A mount from another networked device?

The last is a known problem with the CIFS kernel driver (NFS doesn't seem to have this issue), for the same reason there are issues with playing a recording while still recording it (the size isn't updated).

It's been in the kernel driver for ages, I've got the same issue on my laptop with Fedora, if I want to access my NAS from a VirtualBox VM, problem has been there for a few years.

So USB or eSATA?

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. I can't reproduce the issue here, both with a USB stick and with a WD Passport 1TB.

"it" was fixed? What is "it" in this context, because I don't anyone has said anything about the problem we're discussing.

What was fixed was

  • the absense of the smb.conf in the package, causing samba not to start if you didn't restore a backup
  • the fact that the samba package would overwrite an existing smb.conf on an update

Both not related to the issue described here?

Regarding this issue, there is a German topic open with the same complaint. It seems that if you connect from a Windows client to a Samba share, and you try to access a mountpoint that is located within that share, you can't write to it. This also seems to be true if you connect to the share "Root", and try to write to /tmp (which is also a mountpoint). From a Linux client, there is no problem. I haven't found the time to find a Windows VM I can test with.

Do you have a custom configuration? If so, did you restore that from OpenPLi 4?

Can you login and type

ls -l /etc/samba
/etc/init.d/samba.sh restart

and post what happens?
