Ok, I've done the test with :

  dmesg -c

And I have found "oops" but not "bug" but I haven't all the lines in the Telnet PC Windows, a great deal of lines (I don't know if it's possible to increase the memory of this window) :

  [  326.993547] Internal error: Oops: 207 [#1] SMP ARM

And "shutdown -n -r now" works well ;) .

I'm surprised because "shutdown now" indicated previously displays the help of the command.

"Init 6" and "kill -9 1" alone or after others ?

No, don't use 'kill -9 1'! You will kill the "master" process on which every process is depending on. Use 'init 6' instead.

As Telnet commands adds no advantage, it's easier to switch off the box ;) .

I generally prefer not to switch off and on whenever other resetting ways are available, because the running processes still have a chance to terminate more safely, and the electrical stress on the components from power off and on is avoided.

As my 2 Xtrend Et9x00 do not appreciate quick switch off and on, I wait a few seconds before restarting the box. And it's not convenient to start the PC to open a Telnet session but I can use a long power pressure ;) .

I generally use telnet from my smartphone if I expect a lot of resets...

No definitely not. Every time you switch off the receiver (without shutting it down), you will corrupt the image just a tiny bit more. Exactly the users that do this come here with all sorts of weird problems we cannot reproduce. DO NOT DO THIS. Shutdown the receiver using the menu or using "init 6".

That is not the most important reason. Possible file system corruption is.

Ok, I understand. And I think that pressing the remote power 15 seconds is not clean, it's only hard shutting and do not close properly the software.

Nevertheless, it's not easy to start the PC or use the smartphone.

I don't remember if "init 6" works, only "reboot ... now".

are you sure ?

if that is so then for what is the emergency exit good on vu boxes ?

i use often (if the box hangs) the power button (15 seconds) on remote control to restart the box and all is ok in months.

when you press and hold the power button till such time as the box reboot from alone then it's not the same if you use telnet and the command reboot ?

because if you use the power button for that (emergency exit) the box also make a reboot.

I think <> I'm sure :) or I think != I'm sure

I think the box constructor does not access and take care of the OS and software. But perhaps Erik knows that and can respond.

Hello,

I stop the reading after accelerating x 16 and I caused the failure, and as soon as the spin began to run, a long press on power button, and it works very well, stb reboot quickly. Finally it's convenient for me instead of Telnet, my PC is not  is not near and I do not use mobiles to control the living room devices, so i am satisfied by this solution.

Thanks

Lupus, as I wrote, you can avoid the failure if you choose to go to the service (instead of going to the film list) when pressing stop.

Ok, I've done other tests and I found something interesting. If I choose "go to the last service" when I press "stop" in the recording parameters, Pli returns to the channel (NRJ Hits for example) and doesn't "crash". If I choice "ask the user", all the options which allow to go to the film list crash the box.

Then it seems there is a problem in Pli and when I read the error message, I see the same message I can have with a python program :

unsupported operand type(s) for -: 'int' and 'NoneType'

int(x) returns a problem if x is not an integer. In this case, it's a NoneType object, it doesn't return a value.

Erik, can you respond please :) ?

And can you give your advice about pressing 15 seconds the remote power button . Is it good or bad for the software ?

Thank you :) .

hi,

ok now i know (from openatv forum by @Captain) if you press and hold the power button (15 seconds) to reboot the box it's not so good for the box it's the same as you

use the power switch on the box directly and that's not so good for the filesystem permanently.

so @Erik is right and it's the best if you use telnet and init 6 if access with telnet is possible.
