Hi,

As my Ultimo has an HDMI input, I wonder whether if it's possible to record it's possible to record from this source. I've not found how to do in the record player (where are timers).

If it's not possible, what is the function of this connector ?

Thank you :) .

Good question. The idea must have been to record/relay other HDMI sources. Unfortunately HDCP is activated on most devices so no go. In fact this feature (HDMI IN) proves to be a very fake selling argument.. It's utterly useless

It's design function is simply a loop-through, so you can switch to a second device without having to switch the TV. It's input is limited on purpose, exactly to prevent it being used to "clone" high-quality material. That is why it doesn't support 1080, only 720.

As to HDCP, I can imagine that in the "home" market of the manufacturer, they aren't too worried about that, given the fact that you can get HDCP cancelling switches on every street corner...

I rest my case :)

For the STB this port is utterly useless! Most TV's have multiple HDMI sockets and can be switched by the remote of both TV and/or STB..

it works, but about hdcp you need a hdmi splitter which eludes hdcp copyprotection and also even with vu ultimo 4k this doesn't work good.

WanWizzard, it's an HDMI input, then I don't understand how I could switch to this connector as I do with the TV sources. And I haven't seen where I can select it.

Biki3, where do you select this entry to record it ? In the timers, we can only choose tuners (satellite, TNT...) which are in the list of channels.

It's use is indeed limited. I think it's by design that way, because the "big guys" don't like use to copy media.

It's not a hardware-level pass through as Wanwizard suggests. The input is sampled by the SoC and applied to it's internal video bus. So you can do anything with it you can do with other sources. Recording is possible, transcoding is also possible. The only thing you need to do is to add one entry in your bouquets, with a specific DVB service type and the rest all zero's. I don't know from the top of my head which one, but it should be easily googable. Then record or transcode from that service.

But as said, it won't handle HDCP (by design) so it's use is rather limited.

It's certainly not utterly useless but definitely restricted, mainly because of it's unreliability to record anything with sound. As with the ET 10000 there are serious problems, sometimes it works just fine, sometimes the sound is missing.

With "loop-through" I meant on the functional level, not on the technical level.

As you can put 1080p in, and it comes out as 720p, it's pretty obvious some transcoding is involved. I think it's pretty easy to test if you have a second box, just plug it in, it doesn't do HDCP.

I've connected my Xtrend to Vu+ and it works, and if I think it would be possible to record this flux live, I haven't found how to add a service with only 0 to schedule a timer. I've looked up to DreamBoxEdit but I haven't found  .

If I can see the movie from the other box, when I start record with the record button, I lost the sound and when i want to see the recorded movie, no sound and the picture is pixelized, we can't see anything. Bad news :( .

You have to add the HDMI IN to a bouquet:

#SERVICE 8192:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:
#DESCRIPTION Xtrend HDMI 2 Input

Manually. ;)

Telnet into the box, and stop Enigma using

init 4

then edit a TV bouquet file in /etc/enigma2, or create a new one (check an existing one for the syntax). If you create a new one, you also need to update the bouquets.tv file so Enigma knows there is a new bouquet file.

When done, restart Enigma using

init 3

I assume a modern bouquet editor also allows you to enter your own service entries, but I've never done that.

Ok, I've found one ;) . Is it necessary to stop and restart Enigma to do it? Isn't it possible to modify the file and then restart Enigma?
