The only way to have succesful HDMI-IN recording is to use original vuplus "factoryimage".
For a Vu+ box that is probably true
Sorry, I forgot to mention it only works with VU+ 4K boxes. Earlier when I had ET10000 it used to work as timer recording.
Works only with VTI or Blackhole images on Vu+uno 4kse , with no others according to my tests. This means it is not a hardware limitation.
Is it possible to record from HDMI input ?

You're responding to a very old topic.
It works on all VU+ 4K boxes, but it depends on what exactly is on the input, as it goes through the transcoder, and that code uses a fixed resolution (nobody has looked at that code in years, as nobody is using the HDMI in appearently), and if the input doesn't match, the result is garbage.
You also need a HDCP killer if the device connected to HDMI-in requires HDCP.
The drivers only support 720p, so that was another limit in the past, but VU+ has since released a patch tool for that, and that is included in all OpenPLi images, so now it accepts 1080i as well (haven't tried 1080p).
It does not support 4K afaik.
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)
Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

You are correct that the functionality of the HDMI input on VU+ 4K boxes is dependent on several factors. The transcoder in these devices has a fixed resolution, and if the input signal does not match this resolution, the output may be compromised. Additionally, HDCP protection requirements necessitate the use of an HDCP stripper if the connected device requires it.
Historically, the drivers only supported 720p, but with the release of a patch tool from VU+, support for 1080i has been included in all recent OpenPLi images. As for 1080p or 4K, there is no support for these resolutions in the current setup.
