OK, so there are solutions before OpenPLi implements the feature used in OpenATV.

I will probably go for betacentauri's option 2 because I would rather keep my main image (slot 1) for OpenPLi unless OpenPLi is going to expand their Multiboot option soon - then I will wait.

Other option: wait until we've added the remaining features to the flash image" menu.

So double flash slots 1 & 2 with OpenATV and then flash slot 1 with OpenPli..... providing you backup settings, you are probably talking of a few minutes to do it.

So I reverted, all but the emmc change in this commit :

https://github.com/H...651c5cee021487f
The only difference is that the current OpenPli build now has IMAGE_FSTYPES = +="hd-emmc tar.bz2" from "hd-emmc"

and the original 2 commands for the tar.bz2:

tar -cvf ${IMGDEPLOYDIR}/${IMAGEDIR}/rootfs.tar -C ${IMAGE_ROOTFS} .; \

bzip2 -f ${IMGDEPLOYDIR}/${IMAGEDIR}/rootfs.tar; \

replaced with a copy command.

Ran my updated (with the reverted code) build .... and everything works and flashed without issue.

Somewhere in the build (cannot see where) changing the FSTYPE means that the system handles the tar.bz2 compression with a "tool"  that does not work on my system!!

I have had no chance to fiddle with mu HD51 over the last several months and I am not up-to-date with things.

Has the feature been added to OpenPLi 6.2? I am talking about FLASH IMAGE utility where we could flash other images in slots 2-4.

I have downloaded the latest openpli-6.2-release-hd51-20180827_usb.zip and I'm quite surprised with the content of the zip:

disk.img - about 200 MB

imageversion - 1 KB

Where is rootfs, kernel etc?

All the latest 3 6.2 images available on your website looik the same.

Even the old 6.1 image looks the same.

Perhaps this is normal and files like rootfs or kernel are included in disk.img?

Can this be flashed or not?

Disk.img can only be flashed via usb stick. Roots and kernel file should be included in the zip file. If not then it’s a problem with the build environment.

I'm not sure what is being looked at.

On the buildserver, the multiboot zip contains imageversion, kernel.bin and rootfs.tar.bz2. Are you trying to flash a standard USB image into multiboot?

edit: the multiboot zips on the download server also contain these files.

I would like to flash an OpenPLi image to completely replace the default image as it comes from the shop.

Should I go for for USB or MULTIBOOT version of the OpenPLi image in this case?

The MULTIBOOT version indeed contains kernel and rootfs files but USB version only contains disk.img.

After flashing OpenPLI I would like to be able to flash another image into one of the slots 2-4. That's it.

You can install OpenATV from openpli by putting the image in the root of the USB as ZIP file as you download it from their website... so not unpacked... You can find it via the downloaded_images expension.

Yes, but first I want to clean-install OpenPLI.

Do I go for MULTIBOOT or USB version of OpenPLi?

What strikes me is the fact that USB version does not have rootfs or kernel files. Instead if has disk.img file.

2 options:-
USB flash using the OpenPli usb version with the disk.img.
Or.... if you have OpenATV installed, copy the OpenPli multiboot version to a directory and use the OpenATV Imageflash (use the „local“ button to find the directory containing the OpenPli zip file) and then flash it to slot 1.

the usb version only needs the disk.img which contains the kernel & root already inside the image.

If you want to delete all images on the box and start from scratch, use the USB version and flash via USB stick.

P.S: I was wrong. PLi has as already stated 2 image files. On for usb flashing which contains the disk.img and one for flashing simple multiboot partitions with root and kernel file.

I understand these will be OK?

The OpenATV ZIP contains hd51 folder which contains disk.img, imageversion, kernel.bin and rootfs.tar.bz2 files.

All OE-A image zips for the HD51 contain a disk image, kernel and root files, so you can USB & Online flash.  OpenPli provides a usb image flash zip (disk.img) and a multiboot image zip (kernel plus root)

downloaded_images?

I'm afraid I cannot see that.

I downloaded the following file: openatv-6.2-mutant51-20180907_usb and put it in the root of my Kingston USB and it is not in the Flash Image utility.
