Hello,

I am new to the Enigma system and VU+. Just started to play around with a box and seems to be greate piece of HW but.. I struggled with a transcoding feature. Streaming works fine. I use it on my tablet with 3rd party apps or VU+ app and it works ok as long as It is a pure stream. Once I want to see a transcoded video it fails. I was reading through some manuals and found that stream of channels is done on 8001 port when Transcoded video is accesible on 8002/8003. When I log in to OpenWebIf and download a "stream.m3u" for a transcoding it looks more or less like this:

#EXTM3U
#EXTVLCOPT--http-reconnect=true
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Earth HD

Openning it with VLC or any other player fails but when I change a port to 8002 it works fine. It asks me for credentials however, even when I disabled that in OpenWebIF plugin settings but at least it works. Video is scalled according to parameters set in Transcoding Setup in Menu of OpenPLi.

I am not able to see a transcoded video on any of recomended apps for my iOS devices like: VU+Player, VuPlusTV, telly'mote eighter and think its a bug in OpenWebIF so that by default it tries to run on wrong port (8001 instead of 8002).

Can someone observed similiar behaviour? Any solution to make transcoding work?

There was another report of exactly the same issue for the Uno 4K SE.

Can you check if the issue is still present in 7.0-rc (so we don't chase ghosts if it is already fixed)?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Thanks for quick reply. Sure, will try to change firmware to 7.0 and let you know but after Christmas  is the soonest I can check that as I am on holidays.

1. In mean time, is my understanding correct that making a backup with Backup Suite is a complete firmware + settings sollution and this let me quickly restore my image back to 6.2 in case of other issues? If not, I would be grateful for some tips and "key words" what tools, addons I need to take a backup and restore it in case of box failure.

Thanks

Issue is found and fixed. Too late for today's 7.0-rc build, so you'll have to way until tomorrow's build if finished.

You don't need a full backup suite backup, a standard autobackup will normally suffice. Unless you have manually installed ipk's not in our feed.

Autobackup can be scheduled, I run it every day at noon (so it has the lastest epg in the backup too. If you make it on a local disk or USB stick, it will be detected when you flash a new image, and you'll be prompted to restore the backup. I use this mechanism on a daily basis when testing images or now hardware.

The fix for this problem in 7.0-rc is online. An update should address the issue.

Hi, I have flashed to image 6.2- 7.0 using USB. It did not worked to update image from MENU (not sure why, what I was doing wrong as there was just nothing to screw up) but..
again transcoded video does not work. There is already port 8002 set up in mp3u file but still no video present. Once I change it to 8001 this time it works. I also noticed that when I change parameters of transcoding let's say to some 520p it's always same resolution and bitrade like during stream. Any idea what's wrong with it?.

Ensure the streamproxy is running... restart the box after the first install or do via the console (putty/telnet)
/etc/init.d/streamproxy stop (to observe what happens)
/etc/init.d/streamproxy start

Probably we need to ensure after first install or startup of enigma2 the proxy is always running....

streamproxy is up and running.

I compared m3u8 files from old openpli 6.2 and new 7.0 there are huge differences and quess what. I still have some old m3u8 files on my laptop, turned those on and.. they work with open pli 7.0 on port 8002 and screen is transcoded to lower resolution as configured. So is it a configuration bug of streamproxy or OpenWebif where I download m3u8 files from? I tried to open a transcoded video on my ipad with some apps but no luck this time. Any ideas to make it finally working?

old openpli6.2 m3u8 file for BBC Earth:

#EXTM3U
#EXTVLCOPT--http-reconnect=true
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Earth HD

new openpli7.0 m3u8 file for BBC Earth:
#EXTM3U
#EXTVLCOPT--http-reconnect=true
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Earth HD

Hi,

There are 2 bugs there:

- the filename generated for the transcoding is now simply: m3u8 (the filename is the extension while it should be the channel name or the service reference)

- the options defined into the transcoding setup screen are simply ignored, so no options: bitrate= width= height= aspectratio= interlaced=

So yes there is a bug with transcoding generation of the .m3u8 file (tested on my Solo4K).

Thanks for confirmiation I am not the only one here. Seems that this is since OpenPli 6.2 as it did not worked either.

VU+ doesn't use  / support these URL parameters, it only supports transcoding op 8002, and uses the streamproxy config file to determine how. This was the issue I fixed.

I didn't check the filename. Also, that is cosmetic, a file named "m3u8" works fine too.

I´ve tested it now with openwebif.

If you klick to the stream button then the browser creates a right channelname.m3u8 file with port 8001 inside

If you klick to the transcode stream button the browser creates a wrong m3u8 filename with port 8002 inside. The filename is only m3u8 and not channelname.m3u8

@mosskit:

can´t you stream transcoded streams with Port 8002 or can you do that?

It maybe that you must disable the HTTP Authentication in den openwebif setting because streamproxy would like to make HTTP authentication if the openwebif has enable HTTP authentication

the IOS app tellymote has problems with streaming with authentication

Yes, I know that, but that is cosmetic (and I think I have already found that bug).

The question was whether the m3u8 generated (i.e. the URL inside it) is ok and works (the name is not relevant for that).

Is that an OWIF bug?

Yes, in openwebif.js.

the phone icons in the webif are linked to a jumper8002() javascript function. Which posts a hidden form, this form has a field "fname" which is filled in by jumper8001() but not by jumper8002().

you mean this source code? In jumper8002 there is the missing line for setting the fname to sname

function jumper8002( sref, sname )
{    var deviceType = getDeviceType();
     document.portForm.ref.value = sref;
     document.portForm.name.value = sname;
     document.portForm.device.value = "phone";
     document.portForm.submit();
}

function jumper8001( sref, sname )
{     var deviceType = getDeviceType();
      document.portForm.ref.value = sref;
      document.portForm.name.value = sname;
      document.portForm.fname.value = sname;
      document.portForm.device.value = "etc";
      document.portForm.submit();
}

On my box the filename generation for transcoding works now with adding the blue code in the

js/openwebif-1.2.18.min.js

file in the openwebif plugin directory

function jumper8002(e,t) getDeviceType();document.portForm.ref.value=e,document.portForm.name.value=t,document.portForm.fname.value=t,

document.portForm.device.value="phone",document.portForm.submit()}
