It is very handy for testing. Only flaw is that timers/bouquets have to re redone. I suppose we can symlink to hdd.

Flash times are the same, whether you just flash the box, or flash a multiboot partition?

Maybe if you test with your living room box, I can see an advantage of always being able to boot your "production" image, but I don't do that (much).

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

For the average user it is a pretty useless feature. For testing and development it can be handy, as you can always fall back to a working image.

The problem with VU+ multiboot (and other software solutions) is the implementation.

A "normal" multiboot is done from the BIOS or the bootloader, which allows you to select a disk partition to boot from, like PC operating systems do, or STB hardware with full multiboot support.

VU+ doesn't have that, so you need to boot the kernel the box is flashed with, and then use some after-boot mechanism to switch root partitions. The problems start when the kernel used to boot and the one in the selected root partition are not a 100% match...

Is there step-by-step tutorial for multiboot on vu+ solo 4K?  I would like to test new release before upgrading directly on currently running openpli. Thanks

Don't do this there is no real multiboot for VU+. If you want multiboot purchase a box that natively support it.
You cannot take any conclusions testing several images in multiboot on a Vu+ since image can interfered between each other.

NO SUPPORT by PM, it is a forum make your question public so everybody can benefit from the question/answer.
If you think that my answer helps you, you can press the up arrow in bottom right of the answer.

Hi,

Black Hole Team implementated the real multiboot in flash, see below for details

https://board.openbh...available.3077/

Is it possible to support this Multiboot on OpenPLi images? When I flash OpenPLi the image is not working properly. Other images based on OE-A works properly.

Regards,

DJWeed

As I’m not a developer so I guess that one of our contributors and developers might take a peek whether this could be ‘cherrypickt’ or whatever it’s called over from Open BH.

My first impression is that this isn’t something an average user will use. Personally I can do without a Multiboot for Vu+ hardware as I only flash OpenPLi images and switch between the available Releases or de Develop image, and with a proper backup I am back online within hardly more than 5 minutes. Within those 5 minutes I can go down and get me a fresh cup of coffee.  ;)

Besides this I wonder whether there aren’t any risks in using this Multiboot.
