I have suggested to implement both, as for the box, it doesn't care where on which device a rootfs partition is. It could even be on a harddisk, USB device or anything else that is kernel mounted at boot. I
n theory you could even create a multiboot solution for old boxes as a Duo 2 or an ET 10K.

It would have avoided this discussion, but the suggestion was rejected.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

... and you are correct, I would just like a solution (probably the hd51kernel/root pairing implementation) that allows the current images to work together more easily.

Problem why OE-A images don’t work with this multiboot solution is that you need special kernel and initramfs. It’s the same for current release images. They also don’t work as long as we don’t merge the changes into release branch.

Please stop discussion “this is bad, and that more worse”. It won’t help us.

Compatibility with other images is important for me. I spoke with Captain some days ago that PLi requested other multiboot system for this box. Need to speak again with him how we can move on.
And yes, there are also other images which need to change their e2 code. But as I guess most images have already code for hd60/trio4k/..., it shouldn’t be a very big problem.

... and I totally agree that compatibility across all the images is important to make multiboot work for the sf8008 (and all the other receivers based around this architecture - its not just the sf8008) .... and with your feet in both camps probably the only person that can make this happen - as far as changing E2 code - implementing the OpenPli multiboot code would help move this forward - its already in OpenViX, including extensions to handle image backup that would be needed in OpenATV etc

When we go for a next step it would also be nice that we change to Json code for the image feeds... then we also have an api to make a common image list where you can download different images via online flash image. Better than parsing a website.
Thanks betacentaury for the time you spend on multiboot + I hope we can soon make this better....

Deep standby = box ‘fully’ off = never time in display so expected behavior.

First of all thanks a lot Open Pli team for your positive decision to support an Octagon 8008 box. It is a great machine with huge satellite potential (4k, dvb-s2x, multistream + t2-mi).

Anyway, I `ve got a question in regards to AC3 sound that can be received these days on many satellite channels.

If I select AC3 sound on the viewed channel and downmixing is off, I can get no sound. Yes, downmixing works OK if its` on, but it`s like switching from a BMW to a less comfy car if you know what I mean...

If there`s a surround sound on the channel, why to downgrade to stereo only?

Is this problem related to DD licence or is this only a bug that can be fixed at some point. I have used to use my old VU+ Uno and AC3 sound works like a charm even it is a pretty old HD receiver...

Thanks for any suggestions or explanation.

Hi,

If you want the Display on during Deep-Standby, try this (full list in post 224):

Display during Power off:

Display off:
echo 0 > /proc/stb/fp/power4x7suspend
Display on:
echo 1 > /proc/stb/fp/power4x7suspend

It works with openeight. Deep standby and the clock is shown in display.

@stro11: Which sf8008 do you have? Combo, single or twin?

I can confirm that it's not working and that it works in other images. I'll file a bug.

Clock in deepstandby does this box has a rtc? As in deep standby e2 cannot ‘drive’ that clock...

This command: echo 0 > /proc/stb/fp/ledstandbycolor  is for the led of the on/off button, not the display.

Actually it is just remove an if sf8008 then do something else in the code...

I did not check your changes... but we currently search for possible devices that could have the STARTUP_... files and when found parse them to obtain which slots are possible. We (almost) do not have any static stuff here.
