For a while now, we have been working hard on the next major OpenPLi release, OpenPLi 8.

Core of this new major release is a large OE update, from the current Yocto 2.3 (Pyro) to Yocto 3.0 (Zeus), and support for gcc v9.

To be able to build images with this new OE version, the BSP's (board support packages, or meta-layers) of the different manufacturers need to be adapted, as currently they are not compatible.

This brings us to the following challenge:

Some vendors we build images for do no longer exist, do not want to spend money updatting end-of-life hardware, or simply don't respond to support requests anymore.

Since we don't have anyone in the team with both the skills and the time to maintain BSP's, we will be forced to end the support for some brands as of OpenPLi 8.

These are:

  • Axas
  • Spycat
  • SAB
  • Xtrend
  • Miraclebox
  • Dream Multimedia
  • Galaxy Innovations
  • Golden Interstar

Most likely, yes.

There is no planning for 8 yet.

Hi.

These plans are private only for OpenPLi ?

Or does it concern the whole OE-Alliance Group ?

Thx.

We have nothing to do with OE-A.

This concerns only OpenPLi. On the other hand you might wonder whether the latest images of whatever alternative image aren’t to large for outdated hardware. I am convinced that other images continue building their images but I doubt whether they ever will be tested.

Not as much stir and complaints as I expected. Nobody really minds that we stop building for these brands for release 8?

Maybe nobody currently have those machines......

This is not a complaint, but a question.

SatDreamGR, which is openpli develop based, has published its 8 version images.

It's OE Zeus too, and I was surprised to see that they still support Xtrend ET 8K and 10K.

I upgraded my ET 10K and it works fine, menus are displaying a bit faster than previous versions.

I know that If I ask you why they support both boxes you'll tell me to ask them there.... but it's really hard to understand why don't you, and they do, being an op based image.

they could add H7S as well, Mutant HD51 is there, nearly the same box as H7S

Both ET8K and 10K had enough flash memory (>128MB) and patches where available on OE-A for GCC9. Boxes with 128MB flash, won't fit, unless start doing tricks with samba and other plugins...

I can push the patches for GCC9 when the time arrives.

HD51 has issues with multiboot. No idea what is wrong.

QtHbbTV doesn't build for due to newer openssl 1.1.1.

I did not complain as I have no grounds. But if there is a way to include my ET10000's (3) I would be gratefull. To replace them is rather a lot for me

Did you grab patches from newer QT? Because as I read QT 5.10 includes suport for OpenSSL 1.1.1.
