You mean only installing

libasound-module-pcm-oss_1.1.9-r0.0_armv7ahf-neon.ipk

?

And can you post the asound.conf, so I can see which changes need to be made?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Hi,

I still think that some kernel modules should be enabled in order to properly created the /dev/ devices specified in the modified asound.conf without them no sound. I think that the needed module are specified in one of this thread compared with the OE-A own maintained BSP.
It is easy start Kodi use the RCU up and down in the menu you should heard the typical Kodi sound. If you heard nothing then the sound is not working in Kodi.
So far no sound in my Solo4K.

NO SUPPORT by PM, it is a forum make your question public so everybody can benefit from the question/answer.

pcm.!default {
    type oss
    device /dev/dsp
}

ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
}

I removed all libasound modules and reinstalled just the libasound-module-pcm-oss_1.1.9-r0.0_armv7ahf-neon.ipk

But that automatically installed all the others too. So from \usr\lib\alsa-lib I deleted all modules but libasound-module-pcm-oss.so

And sound still works in Kodi

Unfortunately since a new ffmpeg version came yesterday, audio dropouts were back. Today some kodi packages were updated and now I can't get video working anymore using kodi internal videoplayer and netflix plugin

Todays update to dev image brought back netflix working with sound in kodi. Contrary to the ffmpeg / libavdevice58 etc version from february 1st, some sound dropouts are back - but not quite as bad as before february 1st.

Would it be better to post to dev forum as this is dev image testing?

yes on a fresh installation.

And the libasound-module-pcm-oss seems to install (along with other libasound-modules) when kodi installs - I didn't explicitly install it, but it is available anyway.

But /dev/dsp is missing again - I guess that is the problem... Wasn't that some build setting?

aplay /media/hdd/test.wav

I don't see any issue with the package. alsa modules aren't kernel drivers, they are in usr/lib/alsa-lib.

yeah - but alsa-oss still requires /dev/dsp to work.... I have no clue whether missing /dev/dsp is kernel related or what it is - sorry

I can also confirm that /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer is missing on fresh developer install for Ultimo4k with KODI from feed and sound is gone or with "crackling" sound.

Have no idea how to get /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer installed.

This problem must be fixed by VU+ itself there is nothing Kodi can do about it. VU+ enable Kodi in the BSP but there is no sound.

VU+ needs to properly enable the ALSA support on there side and provide the audio devices in the kernel.
