Hi!

 

I have seen in other images an advance menu for timeshift, in that menu there is an option to auto save all timeshifts when you zap to another channel and also an option to delete all the files in the timeshift folder after X days. 

 

Is it possible to make a script that does all that in the latest version of Open PLI?

Hi

Is there any chance that Timeshift will have an option to record continuously for a period of time, e.g. 90-120 minutes, and switching channels should not stop the timeshift.

I have two LG TVs with timeshift. There is 90 minutes of what was watched available regardless of whether you switch channels or not.

This is a great feature and very often used by my family. 

I have been playing with OpenPLI 9 on a Zgemma decoder for 2 weeks and my family is disappointed that such a basic feature is not available.
 

Does anyone know how to get such functionality on OpenPLI or another system for Zgemma H9?

That means that if you zap 10 times, you have 10 simultaneous recordings running?

 

I don't think that is a "basic feature".

 

And if you have timeshift running, and zap to another channel, you are already prompted if you want to change that timeshift into a normal recording.

 

Also, you can only record what is on the current transponder, so if you zap to another one, the continuing timeshift will block the tuner?

Actually this was never made right.... Also the solution from other images is not right...

Long time ago Andy from VIX wanted to push a constanttimeshiftplugin into enigma2... we refused that time to bring that in so OpenVix was born that had it...

 

When you do a real timeshift you need different code as every image has now... then you record the stuff... including the zaps in between... so when you zap the previous recording stops... (unless you say keep recording that current event or after x time).... and the recording continues with that you watch after the zap....

 

Finally this was never 'redesigned' as other images like what they had (years years later it was added to the image at least more properly) and we did not find the priority to demonstrate that this could be made much better....

How I see this feature as an end user.
I don't care about the description of what is being recorded in timeshift. I don't care about an information which channels and which auditions are being recorded in timeshift. The idea is to record continuously what is being watched for a certain period of time, e.g. 90-120 minutes. That's all.

 

I am sadly surprised by the lack of this feature.

My family and I always watch vod, series on laptops. TVs are only for watching live channels. Until now, we only watched terrestrial channels without any box. So LG TVs with a 90-minute timeshift function are great for us. Timeshift works smoothly and no one cares about the description or the beginning, end of the audition or changing the channel. The timeshift recording is just one continuous recording needed only at the moment of watching and we have never had the need to save such a recording.

I hope you will rethink about the timeshift functionality. I see some questions about continuous timeshift on forums and in Google, so it is probably desirable.

Most people use timeshift either to be able to pause live TV (phone ringing, people at the door, urgent "business"), or to be able to rewind a few minutes to watch something again.

 

And I think a lot of people will become nervous if someone else can watch back the last 90 minutes of what they have watched.

+1….. but it was a ‘Topfield’ feature from the zetos.

Before my time probably, didn't get into the sat scene until 2003, when I got a dish and (crap) box as a wedding present... Soon followed by a DM7000S with PLi.

Topfield exists around the same time of DMM7000S with openPLi .... that box had timeshift... which means a harddisk is continuously running.... And of course there are still users that swear and get used to watch fragments back...

 

Unless this when I go to the restroom I can start an instant timeshift and/or recording so I also do not miss anything... But when the emergency is extreme high I do not have the time to press the button ...

For people with weak bladders, you can configure timeshift to start automatically after zap.

 

For continuous timeshift, you need a circular buffer, I can vaguely remember this being discussed a long, long, long time ago.

Not what you watchet but what you missed as you have wrote 'phone ringing, people at the door, urgent "business"'. People doing many things watching tv and sometimes even 90 minutes is to short time to rewind.
What if someone changed channel during your urgent "business". Timeshift should recording in background all the time and an user shouldn't has in mind to remember to start recording.

Which you can do with the current options?
 
The only thing you can't do is go back over zaps, but that doesn't fall in the "what you missed" case, as you can't zap when you're not there.

 

If someone else zaps while you are not there, you may be able to go back currently, but you'll miss whatever was broadcasted after the zap anyway, so I still don't see a real use-case.

 

If the person zapping was aware you were watching and don't want to miss it, they can opt to save the timeshift?
