Hello, Same problem here, this morning I did a fresh install on my Ultimo4k with stable release "openpli-8.1-release-vuultimo4k-20211128_usb.zip". Did not restore any settings, installed oscam from pli-feed, When I connect with telnet it ask for password for root, I have tryed without, my last I had before and so... nothing. I came from openvix 6.0.003, but did a fresh, but it doesn't work with the pwd I had on that image. So something is strange.. Maybee try older release?

 

Can't be, OpenPLi comes out of the box without password. Did you use ssh instead of telnet by any chance?

 

And yes, "setpassword" is a good solution if you want to set a password without using the commandline.

 

I use putty ssh port 22, and it was impossible to logon, after enter root at "login as:" it asked for "root@192.168.0.22's password:"

Use telnet the first time and give root a password. After that you can use ssh to connect to the box.

You cannot use ssh if root has no password.

Those are 2 different things, Telnet en SSH, Telnet uses port 23 and has bij default no password in OpenPLi. if you want to login using SSH you will need to create a password for user root (or any user) as I said by default root has none in OpenPLi. The SSH server on OpenPLi allways asks for password whether there  is one or not.

 

As a test try to login with SSH on OpenPLi with your name for example so Toja60 and although there is no user created with that name it will ask for a password, that's just what SSH server does.

For your information about this, I did also a clean install on my vu+ duo4k this morning without restore any backup files, just a fresh install, and it was no problem at all to do a root login without password as it should be.

By default in Putty  the connection type SSH is selected you have to set this to other : telnet

Thank you, that was the problem, sorry all. I thought I used ssh port 22 to my newly installed openpli on my duo4k, i did see now that it was 23 telnet in putty, and ssh 22 to my ultimo4k... All cleared

Better to create a FAQ and pin it than a 4 page discussion just because he doesn't know the difference between telnet and ssh.
