It is online but for the api to retrieve the data you need to pay en the website is extreme difficult to grab and when you grab it and they make a small change you can start over.
It is a trend as far I know with all weather websites.
A few years ago I tried to find a free way which also works outside the Netherlands which was future prove and I cannot find it
There are some api available but then the user needs to register and you need to fill in credentials or api key in a plugin that is not created yet.
Weather wil be difficult in free application when you do not want to pay for it!

TheWeather plugin uses the buienradar API which is public: http://opendataneder...nradar-weer-api, it even has its own Python API library in PIP.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Openweather still seems to work. You'll have to get a (free) API key. When I got one years ago, it required only an email address. Just use some throw away hotmail address or something.

Configuration through the lcd4linux web interface should be self-explanatory.

TheWeather uses a json api. I can't find any evidence that the api will shut down soon. Do you have inside information?

When you register and fill out an api key for your own it will indeed work again for more weather websites… but the number of requests are limited so for infobar you need to get them cached and you need to enter the api key in the plugin somehow.

Eg using a Json api is a good way to go.

No, they don't, they use the publicly available API, returning json data. And where does it say it will go offline this year?

I checked several weather websites and all of them come with limitations end this year. The only one that keep a limited data open is buienrader as far I remember only 5 towns in the Netherlands. For the rest it can still be arranged for free but an individual api kay will be needed…. But this was half a year ago or so…. It might be changed/extended in between.

The license does not allow 'mass' download... so we're not allowed to use it in e.g. OpenPLi.... At least as far I understand...

https://www.smhi.se/...andning-1.30622

When you register privately and arrange an API key and put that in the plugin somehow I suggest there is no problem... via that method it might still be possible to arrange a new weather plugin... But then everyone need to register and copy and paste the API key... When we made it this way I also prefer to go for an 'international' weather API.

I also prefer to have a new type of plugin.. the PLUGIN_INFOBARSCREEN or something like that... so a plugin can add a instantiate screen to the infobar and second infobar which can be shown on the infobar(s).  and maybe also screens for the MENUs etc... then you can configure where you want to see weather without having special stuff in the skins so you also do not need special weather skins... with special weather renderers etc...

When we have a 'sponser' we could consider a mass-download... but then 'other' images might steal it somehow.
