For actual video picture there should be change in brightness when HDR is enabled. Since TV switch to HDR mode. On TVs that are not 4K usually that channels render very dark.

 

But indeed the OSD should not change ever.....But it does

 

My observations are that:

 

- in setup the HDMI color depth = Auto by default

- With auto when switching to HDR OSD became very dark

- When set HDMI color depth = 12bit - then OSD became slightly darker but not so much

 

But still i think OSD should not be changed when HDR got enabled or disabled.

When you enter the pin code we have two different screens. One screen looks nice... but the other one is just a black background. It would be nice to have the other 'simple' one also shown with borders.

Afaik Enigma doesn't deal with any of this, HDR is a TV feature, which is enabled via HDMI based on the video source.

 

But it is the SoC and it's drivers that merges the video source with the frame buffer overlay before sending it out via HDMI, so it is an all or nothing, you can't have the TV apply HDR to the video, but not to the framebuffer.

 

So perhaps this is Enigma not pre-treating PNG's when the box is in HDR mode?

And the screen is too big, I think, just to type in the pin code.

And we can see the TEXT icon in the bottom right but the TEXT button is not working in this screen since PIN code is only numerical and the full keyboard cannot be called from it.

I have just read chats about HDR mode on tv.

 

You can watch SDR channel brighter than HDR mode if your 4k tv is soso

Cause of that, Maybe Your tv is enabled HDR feature but candela value is around 300-450nits local.

Most of today tv model has HDR-HDR10+,Dolby Vision trademark but Not good or lower nits candela value.

For example,  Candela value must be at least +1000nits if you want to watch DV film as 4x4

 

I have Phil 65" 4k FALD panel (450cd/m2)

HDR mode is good via 4kreceiver but Other sources affects darker with HDR.

 

Only high end tvs (1000nits-3000nits) do it justice!

 

HDR,DV mode is bullshit if you have cheap 4k tv.

Picture is darker and colors are not true with HDR,etc,etc..

Well i have Samsung QLED TV 43"...And have no problem with HDR. On HDR channels the picture is vivid and very pleasant. Here however the problem is that the box OSD changes as well which is not right. 

However that is handled by the hadrware and drivers and no options seems.

I still like to know why OpenVIX doesn't have that problem then?

 

Did you enable EDID override in the A/V config?

The actual problem is that on PLi colors doesnt have such a contrast like on ViX. And that doesnt depends on HDR it is a general thing when it comes to OSD.

 

I didnt do any customizations to the AV settings except resolution and refresh rate.

 

So i have no idea why it is different....Just for some reason on PLi the OSD colors looks kind of washed out.

 

I thought it could be driver issue...But if drivers are the same i dont know....

I'll see if I can flash OpenVIX on my bedroom box, it is the only 4K TV I have.

It can be TV related as well....As i said before my observations are on QLED tv. So on normal LCD or on OLED the situation might be different.

And there was a question some time ago to use a monospace font for the info - about - troubleshoot screens (i.e. the screens showing commandline output or logs), but as I now notice, all about screens are now in a monospace font?

Well that screens share one template so changing the font is for all screens.

Meanwhile i am working on the widget for dynamic display of service info icons on infobars...

 

Still needs testing and optimisations but for now it is like that

Nice….
One other comment. In the channelselection the title is limited to the middle… while it can go up to the clock…. With bouquets with long names the title might not fit due to this while there is still place for it.

Well the service name is in the middle when there is no event/epg for that service. technically is possible to make it full height and to wrap itself to 2 rows iff too long...

But for that it will need more logic in c++. But the main problem is i have never seen such a long service names
