Audio dropouts and weird dmesg messages

27 August 2024 - 10:02

Hi,

OpenPLI 9.0 + Vu+ Duo 4K (non-SE). DVB-C FBC tuner + cable TV.

I have been dealing with this issue for some time. No disruptions to video but short dropouts in audio.

This is random - may not happen for whole day, on the next day it may happen every few minutes for an hour or two and then disappear. Very annoying when it happens.

TV is connected to Vu+ via AV receiver. I was suspecting AV receiver but I replaced it recently to a newer model and problem is still the same.

When it happens and AVR's status popup OSD window is displayed on TV, it says there is no audio stream from source (Vu+).

The issue dose not appear when CAM module is inserted directly into TV (and TV acts as a STB) so it is something wrong with Vu+ then, not with the TV signal from cable operator.

I started investigating it deeper and noticed the following dmesg messages when these audio dropouts happen:

[   40.241096] FE tune
[   40.335194] FE tune
[   42.555361] [SC]: !!!unknown cmd 0x540b

or

[  741.574696] [DFP]: unknown cmd 0x5401
[  741.578436] [DFP]: unknown cmd 0x5401

What do they mean ?

0x540b follow FE tune messages and appear during/after switching between channels so probably not at fault.
As per my observations, these audio dropouts have high correlation to 0x5401 messages though.

Thanks,
Zbyszek
