the drive is physically not there, we can only speculate, I would detach all other USB drive before testing, I have here few USB 3.0 drives, they all work on PC, on my box they need external power supply or a USB Hub with external supply
Do you mean disconect USB and SD card from box or software? If software I am not familiar with it. I can fallow step by step direction only as WanWizard gave me It can not be a problem with supply because it was working directly from box with openATV and openHDF image.

This is an OpenPLi 7 box. This discussion is about OpenPLi 8, so totally not relevant for this case, 7 doesn't use udev.
Can you check the contents of the file /etc/filesystems? Is "ntfs-3g" and "exfat" listed?
I am sorry to jump in not relevant discusion. Yes I use openPLI 7.3 It contents "ntfs-3g" and "exfat-fuse"
