ATSC support (HDHomerun?)

8 August 2012 - 02:27

I've been away from the scene since 2009 when I moved from Europe to the US. I ended up selling my DM800HD (which I miss) due to lack of support for US ATSC/Clear Qam. However, am now interested again having compiled Enigma2PC.

Since then my main system has become MythTV under linux using 2 x HDHomerun Duals with an antenna (Using ATSC - the HDHomeruns are network tuners - with linux drivers that seem to work for both VDR and MythTV). I also use VDR for SD content.

Is there any support yet for ATSC or Clear Qam (that's what a cable company uses to broadcast local channels - a US digital TV card and tv for that matter, will normally do both OTA and Clear Qam).) in Enigma2 yet? I know there wasn't three years ago, but am interested in trying out Enigma2 again (probably on a PC if not getting a dedicated box).

If any hardware vendors who use Enigma2 are out there, a box which supports ATSC either with a dedicated tuner or with an HDHomerun which didn't require a subscription and could record to HD would sell like hot cakes. The only one at the moment you can buy is a Tivo and they want $10 per month, unless you build something on a PC.
